The discussions focused on fast-tracking the initiative, with Kakamega Municipality slated as the first phase of the project. With the design phase already in motion, Ms. Asichi emphasized the importance of prioritizing this transformative investment, which will provide reliable power, boost business efficiency, and support the county’s industrialization efforts. This strategic partnership, formalized during the inaugural Kakamega International Investment Conference (KAIICO) in March 2024, is set to provide reliable power to Kakamega’s citizens, driving industrialization and enhancing business efficiency. The partnership aligns seamlessly with H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa OGW's agenda for wealth creation and sustainable development in Kakamega County. Although Productive Use of Energy (PUE) is not a new concept, it is increasingly gaining popularity as clean energy companies seek to stimulate energy demand and recoup their investment costs. PUE goes beyond using electricity for basic needs such as lighting and cooking to various activities in different sectors that retire harmful energy sources such as fuel gen-sets, generate income, and drive economic growth. This benefits the companies, the communities, and even governments, presenting a win-win situation. The UEF has been championing productive use in Nigeria through our Stand-Alone Solar for Productive Use (SSPU) programme, with remarkable results. Through the programme which is designed to scale up electricity access to households, and small and medium enterprises, we have brought tangible impact such as women and youth empowerment, increased productivity, new job opportunities, and an overall improvement of the quality of life in the communities we operate in. Energy access is a fundamental human right given its critical role in various facets of human development. It is a key socioeconomic driver that when present, promotes the well-being of a community or society. It is therefore encouraging to witness the global acknowledgement and appreciation of the importance of electricity, particularly in developing countries where access is nonexistent or unreliable. According to Ejike Ndumbuizu from #Nigeria, their reliance on unreliable and costly diesel-run power systems, drove them to look into alternative energy sources. And there was no better option than the abundant sunshine! 🌟 ☀ He says they are working with #DarwayCoast, a UEF grantee, to harness the solar power potential in Nigeria which is estimated to be 427,000 MW. Thank you very much GOGLA for the mention! This grant from Efficiency for Access is pivotal in our strategic journey, enabling us to accelerate the development of high-efficiency AC motors. These motors will not only enhance our current offerings but also pave the way for deploying agri-processing machinery in minigrids and standalone renewable energy systems. Historically, inefficient and high inrush currents of induction motors have posed significant challenges in operating agricultural and food processing machinery. Our innovative AC motors address this issue, representing a significant win for both agriculture and renewable energy! It was an honor to share these advancements with Carlos Sordo and Brenda Luisa Marbaniang during their visit earlier this year. We're thrilled to report that our aspirations are becoming a reality.
