Vienna BioCenter is a leading life sciences campus in Europe, and we are hiring!
Info
Vienna BioCenter is a leading life sciences location in Europe, offering a unique combination of research, education and companies on a single campus: 2,800 employees, 1,500 students, 145 research groups, and 39 biotech companies. Over the last thirty years, the Vienna BioCenter has developed into one of the leading multi-disciplinary biomedical research centers in Europe and into the premier location for Life Sciences in Austria. Its institutions and companies are among the European leaders in their field and have been able to attract excellent scientists as well as substantial private and public funding. Today, the Vienna BioCenter hosts a broad spectrum of Life Sciences players ranging from universities, basic research institutions, and biotech companies, as well as private and public service organisations, including outreach organisations and a business incubator. This type of diversity is a clear strength of the campus and very much differentiates it from all other biotech clusters in Austria and in the World. In total, the research institutions and companies at the VBC currently employ 2,800 employees incl. 395 PhD students. In addition, the Universities at the Vienna BioCenter (University of Vienna, Medical University of Vienna and FH Campus Wien) host around 1,500 Bachelor and Master students. Science at the campus is split into 145 different research groups. The therapeutic biotech companies on the campus, are specialised in vaccines, immunology and disease diagnostics. The rest of the companies offer a range of research reagents and diagnostic products or provide services for the scientific community and private customers. Currently, the Vienna BioCenter expands across 90.000m2 and counts 34 members. The working language is English. All the Vienna BioCenter members share a common vision of excellence. Evidence for this are the Vienna BioCenter Core Facilities, the VBC Lecture Series and the prestigious VBC PhD Program.

Very happy to see the recent PhD Graduate from the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) Anais Elewaut awarded with the Egon Macher Award! Read more about her work 👇 Vienna BioCenter PhD Program #viennabiocenter #lifescience #vbcphd
🎉 Congratulations to Anais Elewaut, recent PhD graduate from the lab of Anna Obenauf, who won the Egon Macher Award for her research on how cancer evades the immune system! Her work, published in the journal Nature, was honoured for its contributions to understanding how tumours escape immune responses. Elewaut and co-author Guillem Estivill discovered the crucial role of a type of immune cell—inflammatory monocytes—in reactivating cancer-killing T cells within tumours, following an initial activation in the lymph nodes. The findings make monocytes a promising target to boost immunotherapies, potentially benefitting patients affected by a range of cancers, including melanoma, lung, pancreatic, and colorectal cancer. ➡️ Full story: https://lnkd.in/deJAVHws ➡️ Read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/gKQcsY86 Vienna BioCenter, Vienna BioCenter PhD Program

"Lasting change in academia stems from those who lead - not through authority, but by setting the tone and acting as role models for work culture" Eva Schmid, Head of Scientific Training, recently talked to the Scientific Observer about the Vienna BioCenter Leadership Program, and shared her thoughts on how supporting and developing leaders can improve work culture and entire research environments. The issue highlights how diversity and equality can transform science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) and can be downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/gvrxCnRt Learn more about what the Vienna BioCenter Leadership Program has to offer: https://lnkd.in/dX2WAyCU Vienna BioCenter PhD Program #viennabiocenter #leadership #lifescience
