A monumental week for science and space as ASDA Chair, Anntonette Dailey (Anny), has been named one of Australia’s new Superstars of STEM by the Minister for Industry and Science, Ed Husic MP. 🎉 The 60 newly recognised Science & Technology Australia Superstars showcase the rich diversity of women and non-binary individuals in Australian science and technology. Representing a wide range of regions, backgrounds, and expertise, they embody values that the Australian Space Diversity Alliance holds at its core. In addition, Anny has been appointed to the Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) Board of Directors. In this role, she will help lead the peak body’s efforts to collaborate with governments, international partners, academia, and industry to drive the growth of Australia’s space sector and economy. Congratulations, Anny—what an incredible achievement! 🚀 #SuperstarsOfSTEM #womeninscience #womeninspace #diversity #inclusion #equity

A great day showcasing Swinburne University of Technology's Space Technology and Industry Institute (STII) this week in Melbourne. Co-directors at STII, Dr Rebecca Allen and Dr Andrew Ang, set the scene for the industry day, for organisations, researchers, and space professionals to come together to discuss advancements, explore opportunities, and address challenges in the space sector while strengthening collaborations. A fantastic showcase of collaboration with Professor Sabine Klinkner, Deputy Director of the Institute for Space Systems at the University of Stuttgart. Sabine shared insights on the ‘Potential of Small Satellites for the Future’ and highlighted the partnerships between the German Aerospace Center (DLR), industry, and academia. It’s inspiring to bring the European perspective to Melbourne! Great representation across industry and academia, including Professor Karen Hapgood, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research; Luke Phillips, Australian Space Agency; Braeden Borg, Fleet Space Technologies; Mark Grimminck, Gilmour Space Technologies, and Dr Deddy Chandra Nababan, CSIRO along with meeting lots of Swinburne students and alumni. Looking forward to 2025 and working with STII on more initiatives to drive inclusion in space science and technology for Australia. 🚀 📸 Allies and Ambassadors at the Industry Day: Lisa Cuthbert, ExpanseInsure; Asha Stabback, ICRAR (International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research), Jacqui Tyack, Australian Space Diversity Alliance. #spaceindustry #SpaceDiversity #Inclusion #Diversity #Equity

On the 2024 International Day Of Persons With Disabilities #IDPD, ASDA National Committee member Dwayne Fernandes shares how space really can be for all. On 14 December 2022, a historic mission took flight from Houston, Texas, breaking barriers and redefining what’s possible in space exploration. #AstroAccess Flight 2 included 16 Disabled Ambassadors from around the world, including Dwayne, the Australian AstroAccess Ambassador. This mission was a powerful demonstration of how space can be made accessible for everyone, not just those without disabilities. Dwayne is a double below-knee amputee with ADHD, where gravity on Earth requires the use of prosthetics for mobility. However, in the weightless environment of space, gravity’s hold is gone. So much to see, learn and absorb at this year’s Indo-Pacific Space and Earth Conference (IPSEC), alongside the 30th Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) and The Andy Thomas Space Foundation Education Forum. ASDA is a Community Partner to #IPSEC2024, and National Committee Member Eleanor Ingram shares her observations from IPSEC and the joint exhibition. "It was wonderful to see collaboration in the space community and ASDA Committee members spent time connecting and engaging with many conference attendees, where we discussed and explored diversity, inclusion in the industry, and the opportunities available to them." At APRSAF, National Committee members Katie Mouser MAHRI and Anntonette Dailey spoke at the Working Group ‘Space Education for All’. During their presentation, they highlighted current statistics on women’s participation in the space sector, referencing data from the aviation and STEM fields to underscore the importance of ASDA's efforts. Other Committee members representing ASDA, include Dr Sheila Gough Kenyon ♾️, Larry James, and Erin Madden. National Committee Member, Mitch Porteous who recently spoke at TEDxCanberra 2024: Illuminate, shares how a seat at the board table offers a unique opportunity to contribute while growing personally and professionally. A board role can offer tangible and intangible rewards, helping you grow personally and professionally by exposing you to new challenges, diverse viewpoints, and higher levels of responsibility. To help aspiring executives gain corporate governance exposure and build confidence, in 2025 ASDA will be launching a Board Observer pilot program. Board Observer Programs allow individuals to attend board meetings as silent observers, experiencing board dynamics firsthand without formal responsibilities. Stay tuned for more, and read Mitch's tips on How to join a board: https://lnkd.in/gnwQstUK #SpaceDiversity #Inclusion #Diversity #Equity
