When ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper crossed the Queensland coast in December 2023, the weather system impacted many North Queensland communities and essential service infrastructure, including Barron Gorge Hydroelectric Power Station. Extremely high water levels in the Barron River caused significant damage to critical infrastructure at the Kuranda Weir which stores water required for power generation. As a result, the Barron Gorge Power Station was rendered inoperable. Phase A and B of the permanent rebuild at Kuranda Weir are now complete. The new concrete wall marks a significant step in strengthening the weir’s resilience and ensuring the reliability of the Barron Gorge Hydro Power Station.

This is the first big battery for CleanCo. The magic is happening on the site of an old coal-fired power station at Swanbank in Ipswich - a site that's been generating electricity for Queensland for more than 50 years. By storing excess solar power during the day, this battery will deliver clean, reliable energy to our customers when they need it most. 🔋 138 battery modules ⚡ 250MW for up to two hours 🔋 Switched on in a fraction of a second ⚡ Set to be online mid-2025 #bigbattery #battery #storage Tom Metcalfe | Tesla Energy | Yurika

By releasing Mary River Cod fingerlings, we’re boosting biodiversity in the Brisbane River Catchment! Led by the Somerset Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Association, this exciting project involves releasing 14,400 Mary River Cod fingerlings across southeast Queensland to replace the now-extinct Brisbane River Cod and establish self-sustaining populations. Today, we joined forces with John Scott, whose property neighbours our Swanbank Power Station site, to release 200 Mary River Cod fingerlings into Bundamba Creek. An additional 600 fingerlings were released at other locations where CleanCo properties border natural waterways. As apex predators, these iconic fish will help improve the overall health of the river system. Mary River Cod are renowned for being slow-growing and long-lived – with some individuals living up to 50 years. Who knows? One of these little fingerlings could be making waves for decades to come. 🐟
