Genex Power Limited is a renewable energy generation and storage developer based in Australia.

About us

Genex Power Limited is Australian-based public company focused on developing a diverse portfolio of renewable energy generation and storage projects in Australia. Our operations span Queensland and New South Wales, encompassing large-scale batteries, pumped storage hydro, wind, and solar energy solutions. As of 31 July 2024, Genex is a wholly owned subsidiary of Electric Power Development Co., Ltd (J-POWER). Our flagship project, the Kidston Clean Energy Hub in North Queensland, represents the co-location of solar, pumped storage hydro, and wind energy on a large scale. It includes the 50MW Stage 1 Solar Project, which is already operational, the 250MW/2,000MWh Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project currently under construction, and the up to 258MW Kidston Wind Project in development. Genex also has a 50MW/100MWh operational battery energy storage system (BESS) at Bouldercombe in central Queensland and a 50MW operating solar farm at Jemalong in central west NSW. In line with our growth strategy, we are expanding our dynamic portfolio with the Bulli Creek Clean Energy Park, located 45km southwest of Millmerran, Queensland. This multi-stage development aims to achieve up to 2 GW of large-scale solar and BESS capacity. With a committed portfolio of 400MW and up to approximately 2.3GW of renewable energy and storage projects in the company’s pipeline, Genex is well placed in its strategy to become a leading renewable energy and storage company in Australia. Excited to highlight the ongoing collaboration that is so vital for renewable energy projects to take off, and importantly to be delivered. 🌱 Genex Power recently spent several days with the team from Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF), McConnell Dowell and John Holland JV, and @ATW Tony Martens, documenting a key element which makes the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project a leading case study for the sector: a successful and impactful indigenous engagement strategy that’s driving job creation and uplifting local communities in North QLD. 📈 Plus, we captured stunning footage of the above and underground works, and the many boots on the ground - all making this mega project possible. Thank you PhlipVids! Stay tuned for the video 🎥

This week, our Senior Director of Portfolio Management, Pat Welch, Associate in Portfolio Management, Alison Collier, and Stakeholder Relations team member, Ben Langtree, visited the Genex Power Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project. They met with key Genex stakeholders, including Project Director Tony Ford, Project Manager John Vanderloos, Procurement Manager Sean Hughes (McConnell Dowell John Holland JV), and Marketing Manager Linda L. from Genex.   During the visit, the team witnessed firsthand the impressive progress at the site, supported by a $610 million loan from NAIF. Some of the standout features included a colossal underground cavern, 250 metres below the surface, soon to house the project’s turbines, Wises Dam (Upper Reservoir) which is nearing full capacity, the recently emptied Eldridge Pit (Lower Reservoir), the Kidston Solar Farm, and switchyards, where energy will flow through a 186 kilometre transmission line to Mt Fox, delivering clean and reliable renewable energy to the grid.   An exciting highlight was meeting several First Nations apprentices and trades assistants who have secured permanent full-time roles on the project, having their training facilitated through Australian Training Works Group and MCJH JV. It’s great to see Genex’s Indigenous Engagement Strategy not only meet but exceed its goals, creating long-term employment opportunities. Global Hydropower Day 2024! 💧🌍 #GlobalHydropowerDay is an annual event, started in 2022, and dedicated to celebrating the role of #hydropower in advancing clean energy and sustainable development worldwide. The day raises awareness about the ongoing innovations and projects in the hydropower sector, promoting engagement between governments, industry leaders, and communities to drive the global energy transition. In collaboration with our stakeholder Clean Energy Council, we are all working together and doing our part for Australia. Genex Power 250MW Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project (K2-Hydro) has become a beacon of #innovation and #progress. K2-Hydro stands out for its innovative reuse of existing mining pits, Wises and Eldridge, as its upper and lower reservoirs. With a significant water height difference and the ability to store large volumes of water, the project operates with substantial efficiency. ♻ It can generate an impressive 2,000MWh of electricity per cycle, providing 250MW of power over 8 hours - enough to power over 100,000 homes! Designed to operate for 80 years, K2-Hydro is a cornerstone of the #KidstonCleanEnergyHub, which includes the already operating 50MW Kidston Solar Farm and a wind project in development. 🌞💨 K2-Hydro is contributing to the nation’s energy security whilst boosting regional economies and creating job opportunities.👷♂️ ✨

Happy Global Hydropower Day. One of the most mature forms of renewable generation available, hydropower provided 6.5 per cent of Australia’s electricity in 2023. Hydropower will play a crucial role in Australia’s energy future, providing not just generation but storage as well. With that in mind, it’s great to see the progress of Genex Power's Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project, a 250 MW project scheduled to be commissioned in early 2025. When connected to the grid, it will be the first pumped hydro project built in Australia for over 40 years. Check out the video for more information. We are thrilled to be at the forefront of innovation with our flagship pumped storage hydro project, achieving several industry firsts. 🌟 Not only is this the first pumped storage hydro project developed in over 40 years, but it also ingeniously repurposes a disused gold mine into a large-scale water battery. 💧🏗️ We are proud to have set a new benchmark as a business case study in the safe and efficient execution of draw line installation for the project, using Infravision's cutting-edge drone technology! 😱 🚁 Infravision, in collaboration with Powerlink Queensland, has been instrumental in this achievement. Their innovative Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) facilitated the power line stringing over an impressive 186-kilometre transmission line. This line connects the Aurumfield Substation in Kidston to the Guybal Munjan Substation in Mount Fox and will help the hydro project distribute power into the national electricity market. ⚡ In deploying renewable energy projects, we prioritise safety and efficiency above all else. A big thank you to our partners, Powerlink Queensland and Infravision, for their crucial role in bringing this vision to life! 🙌🤝 #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #Sustainability #NetZero #HydroPower #DroneTechnology #EnergyIndustry #IndustryBenchmark #Goals
