Last week, mRNA Victoria proudly hosted its first-ever GrantCon symposium.   GrantCon was an opportunity for us to bring together many of our grant recipients to exchange information and knowledge, identify possibilities for collaboration, and explore opportunities for efficient resource utilisation among participants with similar research goals. It was also a great opportunity for us at mRNA Victoria to hear from each of our grant recipients and see how their project is tracking.    We were thrilled to feature a couple of highlight presentations, the Victorian mRNA Innovation Hub (VMIH) at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the platform application projects from the Monash University Biomedicine Discovery Institute (Novel Enzymes), the Hudson Institute of Medical Research (RNAte platform), Messenger Bio (Preclinical mRNA manufacturing), Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RNA engineering toolbox). Additionally, we hope the industry panel session with speakers from BioCurate Pty Ltd, CSL, Moderna and BioNTech SE, provided invaluable insights on navigating pathways to translation.   We look forward to being able to host another GrantCon in the future and thank all those who attended. Thank you to all those that attended the recent BioMelbourne Network BioForum: BioNTech - From Concept to Clinical Trials, held on November 28th in Melbourne. mRNA Victoria was delighted to attend the launch of the newly established Collaborative Centre for Genomic Cancer Medicine, a joint venture between the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the University of Melbourne. This groundbreaking initiative brings together leading experts in cancer care and genomic research to drive innovation and advancements in cancer treatment and patient care. The centre will focus on integrating genomic medicine into standard cancer care, enhancing early cancer detection, genetic-risk prediction, and personalised treatment plans. Using a simple blood test, the centre will be able to create personalised cancer treatment plans for each patient. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between research and clinical application, ensuring that patients receive the most effective and tailored treatments. The centre is focused on promoting equity in access to care, so that all patients have access to the latest advancements in cancer treatment and care, regardless of their location. We were honoured to attend the 2024 Graeme Clark Oration hosted by the Convergence Science Network. This prestigious event celebrates the pioneering efforts in biomedical sciences and showcases the remarkable advancements in health and medical research.   The evening featured an inspiring oration by Dr. Robert Langer, a distinguished Institute Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and cofounder of over 40 companies, including Moderna, who shared his groundbreaking work in advanced drug delivery systems and nanotechnology. His insights into the future of healthcare and his journey as a prolific entrepreneur were truly enlightening. This event is a significant platform for recognising and celebrating the incredible achievements of women in leadership roles within the healthtech industry.   The event honoured the trailblazing women who are breaking barriers and driving impactful change within the industry. The event featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Emma Ball, Head of Ecosystem Development at Illumina, and heard inspiring stories from 2024 awardees, Professor Mimi Tang, Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI); Professor Michelle McIntosh, Monash University; and Dr Amanda Vrselja, Brandon BioCatalyst.   It was a great opportunity to connect with industry leaders, past award recipients, and the broader BioMelbourne Network community.
