🌊 The Gudjuda Reference Group is actively involved in various programs aimed at protecting and preserving their land and sea country. Partnering with On Common Country, they recently guided a group of trainees through a scuba diving course, building essential skills for future work in the water. 🐠 Through this collaboration and support from the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP), these trainees are now ready to pursue opportunities with organisations like AIMS and GBRMPA. Congrats to everyone who completed the course—we can’t wait to see where this takes you! This program is proudly funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) through the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP). Noel Gertz Krissy Regan Leah Saltner Alexander Gertz

Jeanie McIntosh and I would like to thank everyone who attended today’s NQ First Nations Connect in person or online to celebrate #IndigenousBusinessMonth. We had more than 100 people in the room, our largest crowd to date, hearing information from Noel Gertz from On Common Country, Tiare Kelsall from TAFE One Business, Dushy Thangiah OAM and Thaliya from Yumba Meta and Antonio Winterstein from JTAcademy. We also had information in a panel discussion from Jessica Simpson from Blue Card Services, Sharon Finnan-White OAM from First Nations Academy of Excellence and Thomas Holden. We are incredibly thankful for the contributions of all the speakers and panel members. The networking that followed was fantastic with many new connections made and we can’t wait to hear of outcomes due to those introductions. Thanks also to ✦ Cassandra Cazzulino ✦ and Smart Precinct NQ for hosting us and the incredible Kulur Trio for the catering.

Here’s a great shot with Clinton Pearson (1st year panel apprentice) alongside his employer Anne McClure from McClure Refinishing, Noel Gertz, Damien Gough from Learn to Drive North Queensland, and our mentor Jeanie Hampton! Clinton, who graduated from our MTA #2 program 8 months ago, returned to speak with the new participants in MTA #4. His story is truly inspiring—he shared his journey from stealing cars to now working proudly as an apprentice and staying out of trouble, all for his young son. His transition from MTA into our new licensing program under ISEP with Learn to Drive NQ (LTDNQ) has been seamless, and we’re thrilled he received his provisional license yesterday! 👏 On Common Country’s partnership with LTDNQ allows young people who’ve started employment but don’t have a license to apply for this program. So far, we’re 5 for 5, helping our mob stay employed and get to work. When asked how he avoids bad influences, Clinton said, “Stay strong in your head, you know. I just get up each day and keep going to work. My goal is to finish.”

The Set to Succeed team are hard at work building the foundations for a new program to commence in 2025. A unique program that addresses the gap for young First Nations people in Queensland who want to 'earn and learn' in Townsville. Young people from rural and remote communities often don't have the opportunities that those from urban areas do, with access apprenticeships, traineeships, supported housing, leadership and development, financial and business mentoring. The Set to Succeed Program will bring all this together for young people in a culturally-safe and aspirational environment. A donation can help make the dreams come true for not just one young person but for the next generation. Your support will help kickstart a bright future for many. https://lnkd.in/gZpD94cV On Common Country Queensland Country Bank Australian Pacific Indigenous Personnel Paynters Townsville Young Chamber Townsville Chamber of Commerce Rikisha Phineasa Anthony Wotton Gayle De La Cruz Sarah Rose Daniel Dunne Antonio Winterstein #settosucceed #townsville #closethegap #thenextgeneration
