Think Tanks
We implement the international gender policy programme of the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
About us
The global rise of structural oppression and violence against women and LGBTIQ+, the strengthening of anti-gender networks and anti-feminist attitudes and the fragmentation of feminist movements are contemporary challenges. We analyse (patriarchal) gender and power relations, support spaces for action for a democratisation of gender relations and promote intersectional and international gender-political narratives. In doing so, we stand up for reproductive justice, strengthen feminist solidarities and coalitions and call for a feminist organisational and leadership culture.

💥 📣 Join us on 𝟭𝟴 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, 𝟭𝟬 𝗔𝗠 – 𝟭𝟮 𝗣𝗠 𝗖𝗘𝗧, for an insightful event exploring the causes, impacts, and forms of violence against #women in politics and strategies to counter it! Despite progress in women's political #representation, women in South-East Europe (SEE) remain underrepresented in decision-making positions and face significant barriers, including violence and harassment, when politically active. This violence, often underreported and normalised, stems from patriarchal societal perceptions, with heavy consequences for #women, their families, their political careers, and #democracy itself. Speakers: 🔸 Lilijana Cickaric, Institute of Social Sciences, Belgrade 🔸 Milica Antić Gaber, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana 🔸 Jure Skubic, Institute for Contemporary History, Ljubljana 🔸 Marsela Dauti, and Geldona Metaj, Department of Social Work and Social Policy, University of Tirana Moderator: 🔸 Merita Poni, Associate Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Tirana This event is part of the Gender & Politics Research in South-East Europe Webinar Series, initiated by the GenPolSEE network to highlight regional research and researchers. _________________________________ The Gender and Politics Research Network in Southeast Europe (#GenPolSEE) is an informal #feminist network established in November 2022. It researches and promotes #gender equality, gender #political representation, and regional policies by advancing feminist methodologies and connecting with global experts and scholars. We look forward to your participation! ⬇️

Real protection is local, every single day ❣️ As the 16 Days of Activism ends, let’s remember, that real protection isn’t limited to a campaign. It’s an ongoing commitment to supporting grassroots and women-led organisations that work tirelessly, 365 days a year, to protect and uplift their communities. We must: ➡️ Directly Invest in local feminist movements. ➡️ Center grassroots expertise and leadership in humanitarian and GBV responses. ➡️ Advocate for year-round accountability and systemic change. We need year-round, feminist-led action to build systems that protect, uplift and sustain. #RealProtectionIsLocal #FeministAid #16DaysOfActivism #365DaysofFeministAction

📣 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆. We wish we could devote this post to celebrating achievements and progress made in this field. Instead, human rights and international law are facing a strong pushback, making our need to address injustice and open up spaces for solidarity even stronger. This is the idea behind this year’s #OurVoicesOurChoices podcast series: 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝗿 Women are often uniquely affected by war and conflict; they frequently become victims of the opposing side and experience sexual and reproductive violence. At the same time, solidarity within the feminist movement is under pressure. This is why it is particularly urgent right now to strengthen this #solidarity - more than it has been in a long time. We firmly believe that the #feminist perspective on war is crucial for achieving sustainable peace and we invite you to listen to four episodes of the podcast focusing on sexualised and reproductive violence in war, feminist solidarities and feminist perspective of peace.

📣 It’s time to shift power and invest in a #feminist humanitarian system! ◾ Humanitarian crises are escalating in frequency and scale driven by #climate change, geopolitical tensions, atrocities, and structural injustices at both #global and #national levels, impacting 180.5 million people across 72 countries. Yet the impact is far from equal. ◾ #FeministLeadership in the #humanitarian system is the radical shift we need. Understanding how #gender, #race, class, and other social factors intersect to shape experiences of oppression and privilege, centres those most affected, dismantles systemic inequality, and builds lasting #resilience for more #inclusive and sustainable outcomes. ✊🏽 This article is written by Feminist Humanitarian Network, our valued partners with whom we had the opportunity to experience #CSW68 (look at the comment section) and advocate together for change.

📣 Report: Online Gender-Based Violence against Women Environmental and Human Rights Defenders in #LatinAmerica ◾ The impacts of online #gender-based violence are vast and long-lasting if women environmental defenders and their communities do not have access to #knowledge and means to counteract violence. ◾ Effects vary, as the violence imposed on these women results from their intersecting identities, but fear, shame, and a sense of powerlessness appear both in the desk research and the participant’s lived experience. ◾ Moving forward, #women environmental defenders need urgent attention from States, International Cooperation and fellow civil society members. As they move forward with their #activism, access to digital literacy, resources, and adequate protection to confront digital attacks remain crucial, to enhance their capacities to prevent and counteract attacks. 📣 Resisting the Anti-Gender Agenda: Transfeminist Playbook Join us for the third episode of our online discussion series on Wednesday, December 4th! 2024 was a turbulent and defining election year, highlighting that anti-gender mobilisation strategies work by the book. Extensive research has been conducted on who the actors are and which narratives they use. ◾ The next step on the feminist agenda is clear: build alliances and resist! 📣 This report investigates online gender-based violence faced by women environmental defenders in #Colombia, #Ecuador, and #Peru. ◾ In 2023, the organization Global Witness registered the killing of 196 #environmental defenders, clarifying that this staggering figure could be even higher. Over 80 percent of documented murders occurred in #LatinAmerica. ◾ Online violence is a severe yet underexplored form of aggression against women environmental defenders that increases the risks of experiencing offline attacks with physical and psychological consequences. ◾ The primary objective of this #research, implemented by Fundación Multitudes, is to listen to defenders’ voices and experiences regarding online violence. This investigation explores the nature of this violence, its effects on the personal lives and activism of women defenders, and the gaps in existing regulations to adequately protect them through a #feminist and #intersectional approach. Read the research paper here! ⬇️

As we mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we want to share with you the story of Halida Uzunović, a Bosnian war survivor. *This interview is certainly a longread, but it is a powerful testament of 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 of Bosnian women who endured the war and the atrocities that happened. Halida spoke with Marion Kraske about her experiences during the Bosnian war, especially the harrowing events in Foča that became a byword for brutal ethnic cleansing.
