Home to nearly 163 million people, Bangladesh is among the most populous countries in the world with more than 1,200 people packed into every square kilometer. According to a World Bank study, the capital Dhaka is rapidly growing, drawing in an estimated 300,000 to 400,000 poor migrants every year to provide key labor for the city’s industries and services. Habitat Bangladesh is committed to impacting lives by improving living conditions through innovative construction technologies, home renovation, advocacy, promotion of water and sanitation facilities, and supporting disaster mitigation and response efforts. Habitat Bangladesh recently participated in the "CBF Partners' Learning Sharing Workshop," organized by the Climate Bridge Fund (CBF) on October 29-30, 2024, at BRAC Centre Inn. This event provided a platform for stakeholders to reflect on their achievements and discuss areas for improvement. The workshop highlighted the collaborative efforts of Habitat Bangladesh, Jagrata Jubo Shangha (JJS), and the Rural Reconstruction Foundation (RRF) in addressing housing and urban infrastructure challenges through a CBF-supported project. Prince Suman Baroi, Associate Director – Programs at Habitat Bangladesh, contributed as a panelist, sharing valuable insights on these critical issues. CBF aims to gather feedback from its partners to enhance the effectiveness of future interventions, focusing on key thematic areas such as Livelihood, Housing and Urban Infrastructure, Health, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). This initiative underscores the importance of collaboration and continuous learning in addressing pressing climate challenges. #collaboration #partnership #housing

On this #WorldHabitatDay, we celebrate the strength and determination of families such as Brishtu Chandra and Chinta Moni. Their new home has provided them with safety, security, and a solid base for a promising future. This home symbolizes more than just a roof over their heads; it is a nurturing environment where aspirations flourish, children prosper, and the community unites in strength.

Since November 2022, our community-led initiative in Khulna has been making significant strides in supporting climate migrants and those affected by COVID-19. Through this project, we’ve supported 10,625 individuals, including women, men, and persons with disabilities to take better control of their lives. Our efforts have focused on improving essential infrastructure and livelihoods in the community. Over the past months, we’ve installed 7 deep submersible pumps and 7 deep tube wells to ensure access to clean water. We’ve also distributed COVID-19 hygiene kits to 1,000 families, renovated 13 community toilets, and constructed 4 community bathing facilities specifically designed for women and adolescent girls—ensuring their safety and privacy. Our commitment goes beyond infrastructure, as we’ve provided entrepreneurship training and seed funding for 200 vulnerable individuals, including women, widows, and people with disabilities. Additionally, 600 young people have received on-the-job training, equipping them with practical skills for a brighter future. This initiative is a testament to the power of community-led action in building resilience and driving sustainable development in Khulna. We would like to thank BRAC and Climate Bridge Fund for their support in making this initiative possible. #ResilienceBuilding #CommunityInitiative #ClimateAction

In the quiet corners of our hearts, there exists a sanctuary built by Andreas Hapsoro. A tireless architect of dreams, who wielded bricks and mortar not just to construct houses, but to weave hope into the very fabric of lives we work for. His legacy stands tall, not in timber and concrete, but in the resilience of those they touched — a testament to a life well-lived. Mr. Hapsoro, Strategic Alliance Director of Habitat for Humanity Indonesia served as an Interim National Director for Habitat Bangladesh in 2023. We would like to extend our condolences to the deceased's family, friends and colleagues. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
