We have been supporting pregnant women living in climate-affected communities in Bangladesh providing healthcare services by boat. 🛥️ Bangladesh is on the front line of the climate crisis. 38.3 million children in Bangladesh have already experienced extreme heatwaves so far in 2024, while Cyclone Remal killed 16 people and destroyed the homes of over 270,000 children. The estimated five million people live along riverbank areas known as char are particularly vulnerable to drought and flooding, leaving many mothers cut off or facing difficult journeys to see a midwife. Save the Children has been working with local partners in trying to reduce the number of maternal and newborn deaths by operating a medical boat called ‘Mamotar Tori’ or ‘The Boat of Affection’ that brings midwives to villages when they are only accessible by water or in a medical emergency. The boat is equipped with a bed, oxygen, emergency supplies and can be used to provide emergency transport to hospital. Globally, 24 million mothers will give birth without a midwife, nurse or doctor this year and 28 million will give birth outside a health facility, which puts newborns and their mothers in danger. We believe every mother and every baby should have access to a safe, supported birth and no one should have to give birth alone. 👶❤️ https://lnkd.in/g9vT57tz

Health, Hope, and Care for Every Mother and Newborn Mamota Phase II has launched outdoor health services for the Kapasia Union's pregnant mothers and newborns. Locals from the community stepped up by sharing space to set up the outdoor services in a joint effort to improve maternal and newborn health services in the highly remote char areas of Gaibandha district. The project is funded by Save the Children Korea and implemented with the SKS Foundation. The support of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the dedication of local influencers and union parishad bodies have made maternal healthcare possible even in the most remote parts of Bangladesh.

Conflicts bring forth so many more challenges for young girls, like hindering their access to basic rights and making them much more susceptible to #genderbasedviolence. In observation of #16DaysOfActivism, we advocate for protection mechanisms in the #Rohingya camps to ensure that girls like Jannatal are safe, “I want other girls of my age to be aware of their rights, make good decisions, and prevent child marriage in their communities.” #EndGBV #rohingyaadolescents #genderequality Read the full article in the comments.
