[Cities4cohousing] Community Land Trust Brussels was on a mission in Thessaloniki. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we met Mayor Stelios Angeloudis and the Municipal team, as part of the URBACT Cities4cohousing project. Together with our colleagues from Bruxelles Logement - Brussel Huisvesting, we were invited to come and talk about our Calico project. There is hardly any social housing in Greece and social housing policy is in its infancy. As elsewhere in Europe, housing prices have risen strongly here too. This is why the pioneering work of the city of Thessaloniki is so important. Through a pilot project in which vacant public buildings will be taken refurbished and managed by a Social Rental Agency, the first 30 social housing units in the city will be produced. Thessaloniki is interested in the way we take real estate out of the market and in the place community building takes in our model. [Coop Event sur les coopératives d’habitant·es] Depuis avril 2023, le Community Land Trust Bruxelles mène une action pour plus de coopérative d’habitant·es à Bruxelles, en partenariat avec le Mouvement COOPBXL et avec le soutien de la coopérative Cera FR. C’est dans ce cadre qu’on vous invite le vendredi 22 novembre au #CoopEvent ! 👉 Comprendre ce qui caractérise la coopérative d'habitant·es par rapport à d'autres formes d'habitats collectifs. 👉 Pointer les principaux freins actuellement rencontrés - qui pourraient être levés moyennant des adaptations du cadre institutionnel. 👉 Aborder le statut de l’habitant, les formes de parts et la gouvernance. 👉 Explorer ensemble les possibilités existantes et les contraintes pour financer ce type de projet. En acquérant des parts, le·la coopérateur·trice contribue à l’achat du bâtiment et prend part aux décisions. En échange, la personne accède à l’usage d’un logement via le versement d’un loyer fidèle aux coûts d’exploitation.

Spreading the Calico model across Europe!  👉 Calico? A collaborative housing project offering a generational and social mix, developed within the common and anti-speculative framework of a Community Land Trust. It also integrate several innovative community facilities, an innovative community-based model of care and takes into account gender dimensions of housing. On Monday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Mario Nava Director-General of DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (EMPL) for the European Commission, during a visit organised by the European Community Land Trust Network. We also welcomed Dyfed Aubrey of UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) to Brussels during the visit! Following the visit, Mario Nava, Director General of DG EMPL stated that "Ensuring access to social and affordable housing for vulnerable people is a priority. Community-based innovative initiatives, like the Brussels Community Land Trust Calico project, are an example of how to achieve this while strengthening local communities.
