An EO based system for global cropland monitoring

About us

In 2023 ESA WorldCereal released the first dynamic system for timely global crop monitoring at field scale. As from December 2023, the WorldCereal consortium entered a new 3-year phase in which the team will boost user uptake of the system by the broad agricultural monitoring community. The open-source WorldCereal system allows you to: - Create local to global annual cropland extent maps at 10 m resolution - Update the crop maps on a seasonal basis - Differentiate between actively irrigated and rainfed fields - Produce global maps of maize and wheat, two of the major staple crops WorldCereal is developed by a team of experts in the domains of optical and radar crop type mapping, open source developments, cloud agnostic implementation, independent validation, user engagement and production of EO products at global scale. The WorldCereal consortium currently consist out of 6 partners: VITO Remote Sensing (Belgium), GISAT (Czech Republic), International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (Austria), University of Strasbourg (France), University of Valencia (Spain) and Wageningen Applied Research (The Netherlands).
