Our sector plays a vital #social role in delivering meals to vulnerable consumers, particularly in the face of increasing poverty levels. We are glad to see that Institut Montaigne's paper on addressing food insecurity in France recognises this: 🔹 "By serving an average of 7.3 billion low-cost, high-quality meals every year, the #ContractCatering sector represents a unique, particularly virtuous model that must be preserved." 🔹 "With at least 140 meals consumed per pupil each year, school #canteens are also an essential place for food education" These are just some of the key takeaways of their report 👇

The #ContractCatering was in Budapest last week sharing best practices against food waste! Check the contribution from our Hungarian member, VIMOSZ, to the Conference on Prevention of Food Loss and Food Waste by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. (English below 👇)
Október elsején került megrendezésre az élelmiszer-pazarlás megelőzéséről szóló konferencia, melyet a FAO és az Európai Unió Tanácsának magyar elnöksége szervezett Budapesten. A WASTELESS konzorciumának tagja Dr. Kasza Gyula, a Budapesti Állatorvostudományi Egyetem képviseletében vezette a fogyasztói élelmiszer-pazarlás csökkentéséről, annak kihívásairól és lehetőségeiről szóló panelbeszélgetést. Főtitkárunk, Böröcz Lajos, akit a FoodServiceEurope delegált, említést tehetett a szereplők közötti együttműködés erősítéséről szóló panelbeszélgetésen az európai közétkeztetési szektor élelmiszer-hulladék csökkentési tevékenységeiről, valamint a WASTELESS kezdeményezéseiről, és a konzorcium által kidolgozott mérőeszközök tesztelésének megkezdéséről, többek között a WASTELESS Blockchain technológiáról, a számítógépes látás alapú képelemzésről, valamint az automatizált háztartásbeli hulladékértékelési eszközről. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A conference on preventing food waste, organised by the FAO and the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, took place in Budapest on 1 October. Dr. Gyula Kasza, member of the WASTELESS consortium, representing the Budapest University of Veterinary Medicine, moderated a panel discussion on reducing consumer food waste, its challenges and opportunities. Our Secretary General, Lajos Böröcz, delegated by FoodServiceEurope, spoke during the panel discussion on strengthening cooperation between stakeholders about the food waste reduction activities of the European contract catering sector, as well as the WASTELESS initiatives and the start of testing of measurement tools developed by the consortium, including the WASTELESS Blockchain technology, computer vision-based image analysis and the automated food waste assessment tool in households. #FLWSister #FLW #foodwaste

🥙 🗑 On this International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, #FLWDay, it is vital to highlight that while the world produces enough food, 735M people go hungry globally. In the EU in 2023, 42.5M people were unable to afford a meal containing meat, fish or a vegetarian equivalent every second day. Reducing food loss and waste is key for food security, healthier diets, and a more resilient and sustainable food system. That's why the #ContractCatering sector strongly supports the United Nations #SDG 12.3 and the European Commission proposal for legally binding food waste reduction targets! #FoodWasteEU

👩🌾 Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture - what a ride! Over the past six months, our Secretary General, Rocco Renaldi, represented the #ContractCatering sector at the #StrategicDialogue launched by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Alongside 28 other members, we unanimously adopted the Report that will feed into the "Vision on Agriculture and Food" within the first 100 days of the new European Commission. As recognised in the Report, the contract catering sector is ready to play its strategic role to help form good dietary habits and drive #sustainability through its reach across Europe. 📢 The #UTP Directive should also cover food services! Why? 🤔 The unfair trading practices Directive only applies to the sale and purchase of food products, not food services, leading to asymmetry in rights and obligations, particularly concerning payment terms and late payments by public authorities. Extending the scope of the Directive to include the provision of food services will ensure fair contractual relations and protection for the #ContractCatering sector. ✨ Key meeting with European Commissioner Schmit on public procurement! FoodServiceEurope's Rocco Renaldi & Francisco Herrera Rivadeneira had the honour to explain why the #BestValue approach in public procurement is crucial for essential services, such as the #ContractCatering sector. This is a shared call with our colleagues from EFCI - European Cleaning and Facility Services Industry & CoESS - Confederation of European Security Services who expanded on the need to revise the legislative framework.
