In focus | Yulia Bas For Yulia, portraiture is a direct reflection of personality, intertwining background textures with subconscious settings. Her work seamlessly combines detailed realism with sketchy, bold brush strokes and unapologetic white spots of background. Yulia's portraits capture her subjects in a unique moment, aware that they will never be the same person again. Similarly, she acknowledges that she will never be the same artist again. As we experience and are influenced by changes around us and within us, our identities evolve, and the interplay of shadows and light, both real and imagined, adjusts accordingly.

About us
Founded in the Old Port of Montreal in 1995 by Brian Brisson, then a young 24-year-old art enthusiast, with a strong passion for history and architecture. Over the years, Galerie LeRoyer has made its home in three spaces along St-Paul street, one of which is in a historical Neo-Gothic building dating from 1887, designed by architect John James Browne (1837-1893). This space, as well as the other three exhibition spaces in Montréal and Toronto, allows Brian Brisson and his team to stage his vision and exhibit the works of emerging Canadian and international artists, chosen for the power of their singularity.

FOCUS exhibition | Yann Normand We are delighted to present a new series of artworks by the Canadian artist Yann Normand! Focus continues at GLR60 | Montreal through 12 July. 'Normand’s work stems from a reflection on conflicting forces, but also on the necessary adversity that often generates balance and, consequently, the pursuit of the existential and artistic quest. This reflection gives rise to a stance: being free requires courage and perseverance, of course, but it also requires an anchoring in the present despite the tyrannical forces of finitude and permanence. What Normand evokes in his work is the human capacity to rise and rebuild, but above all, to refuse the alienating immobility that shatters the wings of creation.' In focus | ADO 'Through his photographic work, Ado (the pseudonym of filmmaker Jean-Martin Gagnon) explores images from VHS tapes to capture the nostalgia of a bygone era. By manipulating the video, he creates colourful portraits, delving into the body through blurs, glitches, and image overlays. Ado reinvents notions of beauty and aesthetics in his artistic approach, offering our eyes a haven in deliberate imperfection. He transforms raw images into gentle and poetic works, acting as a soothing balm for retinas fatigued by the clarity of 4k and the abundance of screens.' Studio visit | Matthias Verginer Matthias Verginer’s current sculptures involve layered wood with fabric in between, crafting intricate configurations. Other wood sculptures feature pencil lines, accentuating the inner character and nature of people. Verginer’s sculptures often symbolize introspection, inner reflection, and instinctive reactions. These artworks capture moments of contemplation, suggesting a pursuit of connection with emotions, and thoughts, rather than fixation on the external world. They emphasize the importance of looking inward to gain understanding and wisdom, prompting us to ponder the mechanisms through which we perceive reality. - ‘Came Across’ | Limewood, cyan fabric | 22” x 15” x 15” - ‘Connected’ | Limewood, green fabric | 29” x 18” x 13” - ‘Thoughts’ | Abachi wood, acrylic | 33” x 17” x 22” Available upon inquiry: info@galerieleroyer.com

Taner Yılmaz | The Portrait Series Taner is a portrait artist who utilizes various techniques to elicit a breadth of interpretations from his audience. These reactions, although stemming from a concrete visual medium, are ephemeral and emotional. Through his utilization of cubist and impressionistic techniques, Yilmaz evokes a hypnotic realm within the mind of the viewer. Posing the question: “What does it mean to be hypnotized?” Stemming from the visual cortex, this hypnosis works its way through the mind into the other senses. As a viewer, you are able to touch, taste, smell and hear the scene as though you were there yourself. “The Portrait series 14” | 67″ x 59″ | Oil on canvas “The Portrait Series 11” | 59″ x 51″ | Oil on canvas Available upon inquiry info@galerieleroyer.com
