Completed in 2023, Windermere Fire Station 31 is Edmonton’s first step towards a Net Zero facility! The firehall is designed with energy-efficient features such as radiant heating and cooling, LED lighting, and electrically powered systems throughout. Alongside our incredible project partners, SMP prepped for a full solar panel array on the roof, allowing the building to produce as much energy as it used, fully offsetting carbon emissions. Windermere has proudly received the 2018 Canadian Architect Award of Excellence and the 2024 Consulting Engineers of Alberta Award of Merit in Building Engineering. The historic King Edward School (constructed in 1912) was re-purposed as a mixed-use centre to provide a dynamic and collaborative environment with Creative Commons, Learning Commons, and Community Commons, with a focus on the development and advancement of professional arts practice, social innovation, and community development.
