Today, let's educate, advocate, and inspire action. By raising awareness, we fight stigma, support those living with HIV/AIDS, and honour the memories of those we've lost. You might be surprised to learn that Dr. Dick Smith was one of the first doctors in the city to treat HIV/AIDS in our city. His legacy lives on through a fund at The Foundation - Dr. Dick Smith Fund for the Health and Well-Being of Sexual Minorities - which supports Our Own Health Centre, a sanctuary for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Your gift to this fund is lifeline. It ensures that everyone receives the respectful, inclusive, and holistic care they deserve. Together, we can continue Dr. Smith's legacy and help build ‘a Winnipeg where community life flourishes for all.’ For Good. Forever. https://loom.ly/7PS4vaA WorldAIDSDay #EndAIDS #CommunityCare #FeaturedFund

Your Community Foundation. For Good. Forever.
About us
The Winnipeg Foundation is a community foundation committed to connecting donors to causes they care about and meeting the needs of the community. The Winnipeg Foundation is the first community foundation in Canada, established in 1921. We work with donors and community groups to improve the city we all call home. We are For Good. Forever. This means we help you give back to your community by connecting you with organizations and causes important to you For Good. And since we’re an endowment-based organization, your gift continues to give Forever. Community foundations are public institutions built through generous gifts of all sizes that are pooled and permanently endowed. The interest earned from these endowments generates a sustainable source of support for local charitable projects Forever. In keeping with donors' wishes, our grants support a wide range of projects in neighbourhoods throughout our city - providing healthy food for kids, making our city greener, improving access to education, supporting creativity, helping the most challenged members of our community, and so much more. The Foundation offers flexible options for donors to help them meet their personal needs and philanthropic goals. The Foundation maintains the purchasing power of the funds entrusted to us, achieving maximum returns consistent with prudent investment and assuring sound financial management practices. Our vision is a Winnipeg where community life flourishes for all. For Good. Forever.

Winnipeg's harsh winters pose significant health risks for individuals experiencing homelessness, especially with limited access to warm shelter, clothing, nutritious food, and healthcare. THANK YOU to the Extreme Weather Response Committee who formulated the Winnipeg Winter Weather Response Plan, which aims to protect vulnerable members of our community. 🙏 🙏 🙏 The Foundation is pleased to support the Overnight Temporary Warming Shelter initiative, in collaboration with Siloam Mission and its pop-up shelter partners, Sunshine House, 1JustCity , The Salvation Army Winnipeg Centre of Hope, Main Street Project Inc. - The funds ensure this shelter can begin operations providing immediate relief and a safe space for those in need during the winter months. It's through this collective action that we are building ‘a Winnipeg where community life flourishes for all.’ #Winnipeg #CommunitySupport #WinterResponsePlan #CollectiveAction

Led by the powerful beat of the drums, more than 200 supporters marched through the streets of downtown Winnipeg for International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Elders reminded us of the sacredness of women and challenged us to reflect - beyond today, what are we doing to ensure the safety of women? We are deeply grateful to Clan Mothers Healing Village and Knowledge Centre for inviting us to walk alongside you and our community partners to help build ‘A Winnipeg where community life flourishes for all.’ #StopGenderBasedViolence #Winnipeg #ClanMothers

National Housing Day serves as a reminder that access to safe, affordable housing is a basic need—and yet, as highlighted in our “Winnipeg’s Vital Signs” report, our city is at a crisis point. At The Winnipeg Foundation, we recognize that stable housing is the foundation for a strong, vibrant community. That’s why we make grants towards housing projects that: 🏠 ✅ Create more affordable housing options 🏠 ✅ Support innovative solutions to homelessness 🏠 ✅ Build inclusive neighborhoods to help foster a sense of belonging This work ties directly to our 2023–2026 Strategic Plan goal of fostering community well-being through responsive granting and collaboration. Together we can help ensure we are building ‘a Winnipeg where community life flourishes for all.’ Discover more key findings in our publications! https://loom.ly/lM7VpR4 #NationalHousingDay #Winnipeg #Community #AffordableHousing

This is what generosity and unity look like in action! Thank you, Ian McCausland, for capturing this beautiful cover image. It highlights the powerful story between Winnipeg Transit employees and one of our community partners - Main Street Project Inc. ! Read the cover story today! #Winnipeg
The Winnipeg Foundation magazine, Working Together shares stories about the individuals and organizations that share The Winnipeg Foundation’s vision of a better community. This issue of Working Together shines a light on the wonderful work taking place in the world of children, youth, and family programming. The cover image is from a story about the incredible generosity of transit workers provide Main Street Project with a new van. Posing this shot to span a double page spread and showcase all the decals on the van require the subjects not seeing the other! I am sure they were questioning what I was doing!
