The European Workshop on National Wetland Inventories starts today in Bonn, Germany. Given the potential value of NWIs for policy and management decisions, inter alia in the context of climate mitigation and adaptation as well as for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration, this workshop will offer a forum for European experts and Focal Points of the Convention on Wetlands to discuss their status, benefits and limitations as well as suitable methodological approaches. The workshop is organised by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) together with the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands and stephan glatzel, the European STRP Coordinator. #WetlandInventories #WetlandsMatter

The theme for #WetlandsCOP15, “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future,” highlights wetlands critical role in ecological health, biodiversity and climate resilience. 🌊 Against the iconic backdrop of Victoria Falls, #COP15Zimbabwe will spotlight the value of wetlands. Although they account for just a fraction of global land cover, wetlands are among the planet’s most productive ecosystems and the world has lost 35% of its wetlands since 1970, a trend the Convention seeks to reverse by promoting their conservation and wise use. #WetlandConservation #WetlandsMatter
