    As 2024 draws to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect—not just on this year, but on the incredible journey of the past four years. It was in early 2021 that we set out to explore the potential of microalgae for large-scale food applications. We were excited by their outstanding nutritional value, their impressive functional properties and their significant health benefits. What amazed us most was their capability to be grown anywhere, anytime, at rapid speed, and in a highly sustainable way. From the very beginning, we received tremendous encouragement, and in October 2021, we officially incorporated the company. What followed has truly been a rollercoaster ride. We were fortunate to be accepted into the ProVeg Incubator’s Spring 2022 cohort, raise Pre-Seed funding from both private and institutional investors who shared our vision, and join the Fraunhofer Deeptech Accelerator programme, AHEAD. Along the way, we secured several prestigious European research and innovation grants, including as part of a high-profile Horizon Europe consortium. We built our own biotech lab just outside Berlin. Most importantly, we assembled an exceptional scientific team, which succeeded in developing remarkable non-GMO, food-approved microalgae-based ingredients that combine strong technofunctional properties with unmatched sensory characteristics. Last but not least, we successfully tested the ingredients' application potential across a wide range of products, including plant-based alternatives, bakery goods, and beverages. Throughout numerous customer and investor discussions, we encountered strong interest in our solutions, which reinforced our belief in the potential of our work. However, it was clear that turning our vision into a profitable, sustainable business would require significant additional investment over the coming years. With the ongoing economic challenges and a tough funding environment, we ultimately had to make the incredibly difficult decision to wind down the company. While we are deeply saddened that our journey has come to an end, the lessons we’ve learned are invaluable. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our investors for their trust and unwavering support. We are equally thankful to all the partners who accompanied us along the way and, in many cases, went far beyond what we could have reasonably expected. Most of all, we are profoundly grateful to our passionate and talented team, without whom none of this would have been possible.     🇪🇺 Happy to share that we have recently received confirmation for our third #EuropeanUnion grant through one of the EU's research and innovation support schemes 🏅 The project’s main goal is the determination of the optimal cultivation conditions of a specific #microalgae species for the production of high-value bioactive compounds. The programme's funding comes from the European Social Fund+ and the Federal State of #Brandenburg.     What is #fermentation and which role can it play in human #nutrition? The first German Fermentation Summit by Food Harbour Hamburg and Food Campus Berlin shed light on status quo, challenges, and potential of traditional fermentation, biomass fermentation, and precision fermentation for food and feed. What many people don't know: #microalgae can be produced heterotrophically, meaning via fermentation. A huge advantage of this method of cultivation over traditional ones is the high degree of efficiency. Quazy Foods takes this route and converts these highly versatile and sustainable microorganisms into functional ingredients, allowing food producers to switch to healthy #cleanlabel products. Thanks a lot to Jochen Matzer, Stefanie Ostendorf, Jörg Reuter, and everyone else involved in the organization of this outstanding summit! It was a pleasure having the chance to elaborate on the question where we are standing and heading in terms of microalgae on our plates. Quazy Foods is on a mission to unleash the potential of microalgae and is committed to develop healthy, sustainable and competitive functional ingredients. We believe in the need for more clean-label and delicious plant-based alternatives to traditional foods and Quazy Food’s ingredients are an enabler for food producers to meet the needs of the conscious consumer. They were able to raise more than €800K for this round, with contributions from ProVeg International, Antler, us and a number of highly engaged business angels. Furthermore, Quazy Foods is also supported by the European Union through different research and innovation support schemes, namely the Horizon 2020 program and the European Regional Development Fund.
