Small Country, Big Ambitions: The Danish Approach to a Sustainable Healthcare Sector 🇩🇰💡 Today, Executive Director Jakob Skaarup Nielsen is attending the second edition of CONVEHO Amsterdam European Hospital Convention in the Netherlands. With insights and examples of how Denmark is in the process of transitioning to a sustainable healthcare sector, Jakob highlighted topics such as green criteria in procurement agreements, joint Nordic procurement procedures with environmental criteria, Rigshospitalet and its new cooling system, increasing the hospital’s cooling capacity while utilizing exceed heat to heat water and buildings 🏥🌱 The Danske Regioner - Danish Regions’ strategy for sustainable hospitals, launched in January 2024, was also presented. 🌏 Sharing knowledge on sustainable hospital construction 🏥 This week, Healthcare Denmark had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from China consisting of officials, engineers, and hospital directors. The purpose of the visit was to exchange knowledge and experiences in the field of sustainable hospital construction. The delegation visited Sjællands Universitetshospital, Køge, where the delegation gained insights into sustainable initiatives in hospital construction and innovative hospital logistics. A highlight of the visit was a workshop, where amongst others, Healthcare Denmark presented the Danish approach to a sustainable healthcare sector with insights and highlights from the publication “Transitioning to a sustainable healthcare sector”, which was developed in collaboration with State of Green Denmark. ✨Today, the Danish Government presented the third national life science strategy “Strategy for life science towards 2030” with a strong international focus✨ Based on the recommendations from the Life Science Council, the new life science strategy will contribute to increasing the export of innovative health solutions to DKK 350 billion/EUR 50 billion by 2030 and strengthen collaboration between innovative research environments and life science companies 💡 Healthcare Denmark is looking forward to contributing to the Government’s ambition to strengthen the branding efforts of Danish life science 🚀 This include realizing the ambitions to establish a new visitor center in Innovation District Copenhagen, as well as cooperation on an international, annual life science congress in Denmark, and much more. In close collaboration with our public and private partners, we look forward to rolling up our sleeves and taking on this task to contribute to solving global healthcare challenges through Danish research and innovation. Strengthening health collaboration between Thailand and Denmark 🇹🇭🤝🇩🇰 Today, we had the honour of hosting a delegation from Thailand, including representatives from various governmental agencies and universities, led by the Secretary General of the National Health Security Office, Dr. Jadej Thammatacharee, under the title “Thai-Danish Collaboration: Exploring Diabetes Management Strategies”. The visit was kicked off by Jakob Skaarup Nielsen and Peter Wiisbye, who introduced the delegation to the Danish healthcare system, focusing on the Danish hospital reform of 2007, sustainability in healthcare, and success stories of public-private partnerships in Denmark. During their stay, the delegation will visit Novo Nordisk to explore its innovative approaches to managing chronic diseases such as diabetes through public-private partnerships and groundbreaking research. The group will also tour Herlev Hospital to learn about specialised diabetes care and innovative healthcare practices. Strengthening Digital Health Partnerships between Serbia and Denmark 🇷🇸🤝🇩🇰 This week, Healthcare Denmark had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from Serbia, focusing on Denmark’s journey in digital health and innovation. Executive Director Jakob Skaarup Nielsen welcomed the delegates with an introduction to the Danish healthcare system followed by an insightful presentation by the Danish Health Data Authority on Denmark’s digital journey, setting the stage for a deep dive into the digital infrastructure of the Danish healthcare system💡✨ Healthcare Denmark’s Senior Advisor Peter Wiisbye welcomed the delegation to our Nation of Health visitor centre in Odense, where MedCom shared insights into Denmark’s joint-public ownership model and sundhed.dk introduced Denmark’s national e-Health platform, enabling secure communication between citizens and the healthcare system. The delegates also met with Odense Robotics, Denmark’s cluster for robotics, automation, and drones, showcasing some of the newest innovations when it comes to the future of digital health 🦾 Part of the program also included an introduction to public-private partnerships in Denmark, highlighted by the Lighthouse Life Science. At Digital Hub Denmark, the delegates engaged in discussions on Danish GovTech and the successful implementation of digital solutions focusing on involving academia and creating a strong ecosystem for clinical trials. Japanese-Danish knowledge exchange on digital technologies💡 Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming NEC Solution Innovators, one of Japan's largest system integration companies, who is visiting Denmark to learn about Danish strongholds in Life Science and exchange ideas with Danish companies exploring potential partnerships 🇯🇵🇩🇰 With 30% of Japan's population aged 65 or older, the country faces challenges like rising social security costs and caregiver shortage. NEC is interested in Danish technologies that promote healthier lifestyles and disease prevention. Healthcare Denmark’s Executive Director, Jakob Skaarup Nielsen, and Advisor, Oluf á Heygum Bærentsen, provided an insightful introduction to digitalization in the Danish healthcare system, highlighting healthcare organization and responsibilities. The event was organized by Chief Advisor Hans Henrik Philipsen in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy in Copenhagen. The Japanese delegates met with MedCom’s CEO Lars Hulbaek, who provided valuable information about data sharing in Danish healthcare, and Charan Nelander, Director for The Danish Committee for Health Education (Komiteen for Sundhedsoplysning), shared the Danish national strategies for encouraging behavioral changes to prevent disease. WHINN - Week of Health and Innovation kicks off in Odense 🚀 Today, we welcomed a group of participants from Germany, Finland, UK, and the Netherlands for the #WHINN conference to our showroom, where Senior Advisor Peter Wiisbye introduced Denmark’s healthcare system and showcased its digital transformation journey. The presentation provided insights into the structure of primary and secondary care in Denmark and highlighted solutions for key challenges facing healthcare systems worldwide, including structural and digital innovations. Finally, discussions also focused on Denmark’s approach to public-private partnerships and their essential role in advancing sustainable, patient-centered healthcare solutions.
