📣 Open Evidence, in collaboration with PwC EU Services and Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano has been awarded a new project: “Study on the quality of life of cancer patients and survivors” for the European Commission (HaDEA and DG SANTE). 🔍The aim of this study is to better understand how to measure, monitor and improve the management of cancer patients’ and survivors’ Quality of Life (QoL) in a systemic way, using objective indicators and data gathered from public and private, international, national, and sub-national sources. The two-year study will identify, map and collect relevant indicators to measure and assess quality of life of cancer patients and survivors, with a view to developing a set of common indicators that could ultimately be integrated into the European Cancer Inequalities Registry. 📖 This study is a good opportunity to continue the work on cancer carried out by Open Evidence and PwC in the previous study on mapping and evaluating the implementation of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. 🦺 👔 Whereas ensuring that workers receive adequate wages is enshrined in the European Pillar of Social Rights, there is currently no widely accepted definition on what wage adequacy is, and therefore what constitutes an adequate wage. In fact, wage adequacy encompasses different dimensions related to within- and between- country wage inequalities; inter- and intra-industry wage differences; or migrant and gender pay gaps. 🔎 📑 We are excited to share that at Open Evidence we have recently been awarded a project on “New measures on wage adequacy” for the European Commission – DG EMPL in which we will explore the different dimensions of wage adequacy. One of the results of the project will be the development of indicators to measure wage adequacy in a comparable manner across EU Member States. 📢 Find more about the work we do in: https://lnkd.in/gg-acGsr #wageadequacy #livingconditions #fairness #livingwage #workersrights #EUprojects

📢 🏫 Professionals in the education sector have a higher exposure to psychosocial risks due to factors such as excessive workloads, emotional demands, or exposure to violence and harassment. Despite the higher risk exposure, the literature on the topic has found an overall lack of prevention and management strategies to address psychosocial risks in education. At Open Evidence, we have recently started working in a project on “Work-related psychosocial risk factors and mental health in the education sector” for the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA). The project will: 🔎 Provide the state-of-knowledge on psychosocial risk factors and mental health in the education sector. 🗣 Identify good practice examples on how to prevent and manage such risks. 🗣 💬 Earlier this month, Open Evidence participated in the Career Day of the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE). We had the opportunity to present the work that we do and to network with this year’s cohort of BSE Master’s students. It was great to have a full room of students, with very diverse and impressive profiles, interested to know more about Open Evidence. The Career day also gave us the chance to discuss with them in a more informal environment. 🙌 Thanks again to the Barcelona School of Economics for the organisation, and to all students who showed their interest in what we do! #careerday #BSE #networking

💡 Last week, Open Evidence participated in the kick-off meeting of a new project involving a feasibility study on integrated surveillance systems on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial consumption (AMC) encompassing human health, animal health, plant health, food, wastewater and the environment. 🤝 Together with our team from PwC EU Services , Università degli Studi di Verona and IBiS Instituto de Biomedicina de Sevilla, we will be working with EU Health and Food Safety and European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) to support EU Member States in the development of effective integrated One Health surveillance systems on AMR and AMC. 🇪🇺 This project further expands our support in the area of public health for EU institutions. We’re eager to continue supporting all EU goals in this area. #EU #PublicHealth #OneHealth #AMR #AMC #Surveillance

❓ How protected are you when navigating the digital world? 📢 The European Commission published the findings of the Digital Fairness Fitness Check (https://lnkd.in/dJSUs5Fi), evaluating whether current EU consumer protection laws are strong enough to protect consumers in this digital landscape. 🔎 Open Evidence behavioural research continues to provide essential evidence helping to improve shape and enforce the EU consumer law. Our scientific work aims to ensure consumers are better protected against unfair commercial practices in this fast-evolving digital space. The Fitness Check confirms several results that Open Evidence presented two years ago: https://lnkd.in/e4Cy5dtw 🔬 Key Findings of the Fitness Check: The three main EU Directives on consumer protection have provided regulatory certainty and boosted consumer trust, but many consumers still feel they lack full control over their online experiences: 📍 Dark patterns in online interfaces that manipulate decisions, such as false urgency claims 📍 Addictive design in digital services, like gambling-like features in video games 📍 Personalised targeting that exploits consumer vulnerabilities, such as financial challenges or mental health issues 📍 Difficulties unsubscribing from digital services 📍 Problematic practices by social media influencers, some of which may violate EU consumer law At Open Evidence, we echo the European Commission's UCPD Guidance, which encourages enforcement bodies to apply insights from behavioural economics, underscoring the growing role of behavioural science in creating fairer digital markets. #DigitalFairness #ConsumerProtection #EUConsumerLaw #BehaviouralScience #DarkPatterns Egelyn Braun

The last two days, Open Evidence held a company event in Florence that gave employees from the offices of Barcelona and Milan the opportunity to interact with each other and find innovative ways to improve our work. We took time to explore the city of Florence in a cultural activity that made us discover the political history of the city, from the Medici to Dante, through a guided walking tour. Aside from exploring the culinary delights that Tuscany offers and walk around the hills of Fiesole, we organised a workshop facilitated by Daniele Guiotto to discuss Open Evidence purpose and future actions. Finally, we learnt from each other through presentations of different projects that colleagues at Open Evidence have been working on these last months. 💡We look forward to implementing all the lessons learnt in our new projects!
