About us

The Youth Division is the division responsible for Africa's Youth Agenda at the African Union Commission (AUC). The Division is in charge of addressing issues concerning: • Youth policy development: the African Youth Charter; • Legal frameworks for Youth development; • Programmatic framework: African Youth Decade Plan of Action (2009–2018); • Youth capacity building and enhancing employability skills through the African Union Youth Volunteers Corps (AU-YVC); • Partnership building and resource mobilization; • Promoting Youth participation through activities such as organizing Youth Forums and Celebrating the African Youth Day;

  • Yesterday, the Afri'Talent Cohort was launched with an inaugural Eastern Africa bootcamp. The program is part of the implementation of the Women and Youth Financial & Economic Inclusion 2030 Initiative and seeks to address critical gaps in access to skills development, funding, and mentorship within the African creative sector. The 3-day bootcamp will: ✔️Equip the cohort with advanced skills in creative sector entrepreneurship, digital marketing, & business development. ✔️Provide participants with access to essential tools necessary to unlock funding opportunities for scaling businesses. ✔️Foster regional collaboration and build a robust cross-country network of creative professionals, and industry leaders. ✔️Provide a Gender & Youth mainstreaming training to promote inclusivity and equality within the creative sector. #WYFEI2030

  • The African Union Commission's Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate and the Young Women of Africa (YWOA), together with partners, are convening YWOA's 4th Annual Continental Convention in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia themed "Encouraging Gender Sensitive Leadership to Promote Innovation & Economic Empowerment to Unlock Opportunities for Young Women in Africa." In her welcome remarks, the Director of the Women, Gender, and Youth Director, Ms. Prudence Ngwenya reiterated that leaders have the responsibility to amplify young women's voices, invest in their potential, and ensure that young women are not merely participants in the economy but co-creators of its future. Bringing together more than 100 participants, the 2-day event seeks to: ✔️Explore barriers & opportunities for young women's participation in decision-making processes. ✔️Celebrate & showcase young women change makers championing women’s rights initiatives in their communities. ✔️Assess 2024 achievements and establish a foundation for the 2025 Action Plan. ✔️Provide a learning platform for grassroots youth-led organizations. ✔️Forge stronger connections among young women. The Young Women of Africa is a network of young women advocating for gender equity, the participation of young women and girls in economic empowerment activities, and gender-sensitive leadership.

  • Exciting week ahead as we start a week-long leadership and professional training for 45 African Youth Volunteers in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia! The training will strengthen the AUYVs's leadership and professional skills, preparing them to succeed in the workplace. The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps program is a continental development program that recruits & works with youth volunteers to serve across various organs & departments of the African Union, Member States, and partner organisations.
