🌱 Insights from the Sustainability Leaders Connect CO2 AI 🌍 This week’s Sustainability Leaders Connect brought together trailblazers across industries to tackle one of the most pressing challenges: scaling product environmental footprints (PEF) to effectively decarbonize. 🌟 Key takeaways: 1️⃣ Objectives of Product Footprints: Companies scale Product Environmental Footprints (PEFs) for various goals, including responding to customer demands, enabling carbon labeling for consumers, and driving product eco-design. PEFs play a crucial role in pinpointing emissions hotspots and guiding decarbonization efforts in collaboration with suppliers. Tools like CO2 AI are essential not only for scaling calculations but also for forecasting emissions growth and dynamically adjusting product portfolios to meet targets. 2️⃣ Data Challenges: Collecting high-quality data from suppliers is a significant challenge due to the large number of suppliers and varying levels of maturity. Supplier training and structured frameworks can improve data accuracy and actionability. Leaders like Symrise AG leverage CO2 AI’s computation engine to generate consistent, transparent, and traceable product footprints in line with industry standards. Confidence scores are valuable for fostering trust and transparency in data-sharing with suppliers. 3️⃣ Communicating with Customers and Consumers: Third-party verification builds trust, whether for the methodology (ensuring alignment with standards) or the final results. Customer demand is intensifying, with supplier choices increasingly tied to Scope 3 performance. Companies that act now can expect future commercial advantages. Beyond eco-labeling, brands are incorporating eco-performance into storytelling to enhance brand equity, particularly with Gen Z audiences. 🙌 Special thanks to all the trailblazing participants: Astrid De Paepe | Toby Martin Hughes | Sarah Schlegel | Claude Dufour | Victor Frontere | Claire DU PELOUX | Cristina Van Loy | Brie Seferian And a big thank you to our CO2 AI hosts - Geoffroy de Bérail, Charlotte Degot & Pierre Amelot for facilitating this incredible discussion and creating a space for impactful collaboration! 🚀 Looking ahead: This session reinforced the importance of a cross-industry approach to meet 2030 targets. 🌍 Are companies making progress in measuring and reducing emissions? Last month, our CEO Charlotte Degot and Diana Dimitrova from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) explained findings from our annual Carbon Survey with BCG. The survey recorded responses from companies that account for 45% of global emissions. Here’s what we uncovered: 🚨 The reality check: Only 9% of companies are comprehensively measuring their emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3), and just 11% are reducing emissions in line with their targets—numbers that have actually decreased since last year. 💡 The silver lining? 25% of companies are turning their decarbonization efforts into a financial benefits—translating to $200 million net benefits after investment. It’s a powerful reminder that sustainability does drive long-term profitability. 🔍 What are the top performing companies doing differently? • A solid climate transition plan that aligns costs with carbon reduction • Product-level emissions measurement • Using AI to scale up emissions calculation and reduction 📺 Watch the full video to learn more and find the link to our detailed Carbon Survey in the comments below! 🌱 #BCGatUNGA24 #BCGatClimateWeek24 #ClimateWeek24 #Sustainability #CarbonSurvey #Decarbonization #AI #ClimateAction

Thank you, Rich Lesser, for emphasizing the urgency of climate action and highlighting how AI can be a key enabler of meaningful change. As a CO2 AI board member, Rich understands the power of AI to transform vast data insights into actionable solutions. As we face the challenge of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees, CO2 AI helps organizations identify emission hotspots, optimize operations, and build sustainable strategies. Together, business leaders and AI can accelerate our path to a climate-secure future. #AIforGood #ClimateAction #CO2AI
We need to stare at the real data, and the real data says… we’re not on track for 1.5 degrees. We're not on track for 2 degrees. We're on track for 2.5-3 degree increases. The human impact, the nature impact, and the economic impact of that trajectory are massive and swamp, by multiples, what it would actually cost to tackle climate change. I joined over 100 CEOs of leading global companies to call on governments and business to accelerate climate action and investment. Read our letter here: wef.ch/COP29OpenLetter24 Thanks to my World Economic Forum Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders co-chairs, Jesper Brodin, Ester Baiget, Sumant Sinha, and Feike Sijbesma, as well as the team at the Forum, including Pim Valdre, Pedro Gomez Pensado, and Gim Huay Neo, for their leadership and collaboration.
