📢 New Research Alert!! I am excited to share the latest OECD Public Governance Working Paper: “Lack of trust in institutions and political engagement. An analysis based on the 2021 OECD Trust Survey” In this paper, together with Sina Smid and Monica Ferrín we analyse how a lack of trust in public institutions affects democratic governance. Drawing on data from the 2021 OECD Survey on Drivers of Trust in Public Institutions, we explore: ✅ The socioeconomic characteristics of individuals who lack trust. ✅ Their perceptions of political voice. ✅ Their forms of political engagement. At a time when political polarisation, mis- and disinformation, and declining public trust are global challenges, understanding these dynamics is critical. The paper also highlights actions governments can take to strengthen citizen engagement in policymaking. This research offers valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and anyone interested in the health of our democracies. 👉 Read more, let us know your thoughts or reach out to discuss this further! #trust #democracy #publicgovernance #engagement

  • 📢 2023 OECD/IDB #DigitalGovernment Index of Latin America and the Caribbean Digital transformation is at the heart of building responsive, resilient, and inclusive public sectors. Achieving sustainable digital transformation over the long term requires solid foundations, including robust governance frameworks and capable institutions, reliable and resilient digital public infrastructure, and a forward-looking approach to governing emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. The OECD/IDB 2023 #DigitalGovernmentIndex for #LatinAmerica and the #Caribbean (DGI LAC) provides a benchmark for evaluating the region's progress in shifting towards human-centred and sustainable digital government policies. Implemented with the Inter-American Development Bank (#IDB) and based on the OECD - OCDE Digital Government Index, the DGI LAC evaluates six critical dimensions to enable digital transformation in governments across 23 LAC countries: Digital by Design, Data-Driven Public Sector, Government as a Platform, Open by Default, User-Driven, and Proactiveness. Key findings: ➡️ Leaders: Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, Brazil, and Mexico slightly surpass the OECD average, demonstrating robust policies and balanced performance. ➡️ Progress: The region excels in Digital by Design and User-Driven approaches, reflecting efforts to establish strong governance frameworks and bridge digital divides. However, dimensions like Government as a Platform and Proactiveness show significant room for growth, particularly in adopting advanced technologies like AI and common digital systems that enable a digital transformation at scale. ➡️ Challenges: Most LAC countries still lag behind the OECD average, highlighting the need for greater investment in digital infrastructure, open data, and prospective governance of digital technologies in government. To drive sustainable digital transformation, #LAC governments should: ➡️ Expand digital public infrastructure and common building blocks for coherent service delivery. ➡️ Foster a data-driven culture by enhancing data-sharing capabilities and using data for proactive policymaking. ➡️ Prioritise user engagement in service design and delivery while addressing barriers to inclusion. ➡️ Strengthen monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to guide policy and optimize resource allocation. • OECD #Youth Policy Toolkit 📢 A Better Future for Young People in Ageing Societies In a rapidly evolving world shaped by green and digital transformations, demographic shifts, and economic challenges, young people face unique hurdles - and are more likely than other age groups to express low trust in government. To help them become independent and participate in economic, public, and social life, governments must adopt comprehensive, whole-of-government approaches that support skills development, quality employment, social inclusion, mental health, and meaningful youth participation and representation. The OECD Recommendation on Creating Better Opportunities for Young People (2022) promotes such a government-wide strategy, offering policy standards that help improve outcomes for youth. To turn this vision into action, today we launched the Youth Policy Toolkit - a resource designed to provide policy makers with practical, hands-on guidance. With examples of good practices from all 38 OECD countries, the Toolkit covers critical areas including: ➡️ Skills and competencies ➡️ Youth labour market outcomes and entrepreneurship ➡️ Young people’s social and health outcomes ➡️ Young people’s trust in government and relationship with public institutions ➡️ Administrative and technical capacities to address age-based inequalities By providing policy makers and practitioners with actionable insights, the Toolkit aims to help young people reach their full potential and foster a future where they are active, confident participants in public, social, and economic life. • #EndGBV 📢 Breaking the Cycle of #GenderBasedViolence: Translating Evidence into Action for Victim/Survivor-centred Governance  This OECD - OCDE report underscores the pervasive and detrimental impact of gender-based violence (#GBV) on individuals, particularly women and girls, across various aspects of life.  While GBV has gained attention globally, challenges persist. The report emphasises a three-pillar approach for an OECD GBV Governance Framework: Systems, Culture, and Access to Justice.  Key findings from the report:  ➡️ Increasingly, government are committing to tackling GBV: 77% of surveyed OECD countries have adopted strategic frameworks on GBV.  ➡️ At the same time, the implementation these strategies remains insufficient: only 50% of the surveyed OECD countries have adopted dedicated budgets for these frameworks.  ➡️ Despite promising practices in victim/survivor-centred policy design and service delivery, only 43%  of the surveyed OECD countries have the tools to tailor to the specific needs of victims/survivors.  ➡️ Only 35%  of surveyed OECD countries have introduced programmes that document and analyse femicides/feminicides.    The report also identifies gaps in crisis management plans, evaluations of integrated service delivery, legal needs assessments, and information accessibility.  Addressing these challenges is vital for comprehensive and effective efforts to combat GBV across OECD countries.  See report 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eFkwzZci  #GenderEquality #NoExcuse #16days
