About us
Established in 2008, the African Nutrition Society (ANS) is a registered scientific professional body, a learned society formed by nutritional scientists, food scientists and other health professionals working in, and with an interest in the nutrition agenda for Africa. ANS was established as an umbrella organization among others, to develop and promote the nutrition profession in Africa and to oversee the Africa nutritional Epidemiology conferences (ANEC) which have been running since 2002. As a professional learned society, ANS seeks first and foremost to promote the ideals of food and nutritional sciences as a subject allied to medicine and central to sound health policies and the attainment of optimum population health. The interests of individual members in playing their roles in promoting the nutritional well being of the communities they serve are therefore paramount. The standards of scientific training, attainment, research capability and sound professional practice are essential ingredients of any professional body of repute and ANS seeks to promote and ensure that its members meet the highest standards of professional practice. Although established in Africa, membership of ANS is worldwide and open to nutritionists and other professionals with a genuine interest in nutrition and how it impacts on human and economic development in Africa.

The African Nutrition Conference (ANC 2024) has been a great platform for linking the Europe-centred CATALYSE program with African thought and action leaders. This connection strengthens ties between two continents while reinforcing the critical link between food safety and nutrition. A week ago, I had the incredible opportunity to present my undergraduate thesis at the just-concluded 9th Africa Nutrition Conference, Africa Nutrition Society. Standing before some of the brightest minds in the field of nutrition was both exhilarating and challenging. The questions posed were thought-provoking, and although a few almost shook me, I was proud to provide clear, and confident answers. This experience has truly inspired me, fueling my passion to push further and make an even greater impact in the nutrition space. I’m excited about what the future holds! #AfricaNutrition #ANC2024 #ANCIX

Celebrating great experiences and memories at #ANC2024
I had an amazing experience at the 9th Africa Nutrition Conference 2024 organized by Africa Nutrition Society. The journey began with warm wishes from Simeon Ehui, Director General at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), which set a positive tone for the trip. Over the course of five highly informative days, this year’s conference addressed crucial global issues impacting food and nutrition security. It provided a fantastic platform for networking and collaboration. I had the privilege of meeting inspiring professionals such as Mary Ward, President of The Nutrition Society (UK and Ireland, 2023-26), along with Basma Ellahi PhD RNutr FHEA and Jade Mitchell RNutr . I also had the pleasure of connecting with Francois Stepman, a GFAiR consultant interested in underutilized crops and Prof. Alan Jackson. Moreover, I was fortunate to reconnect with my supervisors, Oladejo Adepoju, Folake Samuel, Yemisi Folasire, and Kayode Ajayi, Ph.D, as well as other esteemed experts in the field. Additionally, the event offered a wonderful reunion with old friends and now great scientists like Olanike Olubunmi Balogun and Selormey Pearl, alongside global researchers such as Mona Ziba Ghadirian, Ibukun Afolami, Ph.D I am eager to apply the insights I’ve gained and look forward to continuing these valuable collaborations in the future! #ANC2024 #ANC #ANEC9 #dietitians #nutritionists #ANEC9 #ANECIX
