Today, we bring to you, the excerpt of an article written by Dr. Abhay Bang. Research For Whom – Part 1 Looking back at some 30 years of working in the social sector, I believe that the most important milestone in my journey was the point when I started recognising the importance of research in development. As a freshly minted doctor in the late 1970s, I was so socially oriented that I did not take research seriously. When Dr. Rani Bang and I started working in the villages of Wardha district, in 1977, we had a lot of beautiful, innocent ideas: we thought we would help people in the villages, that people would change, and villages would change, too. But we soon realised—after sincere attempts at bringing about change through medical care as well as through farmer and labour movements—that we could only achieve limited results through these approaches. For example, although our work with landless agricultural labourers was aimed at organising them to demand a fair deal from the Employment Guarantee Scheme, we were unable to negotiate a substantial increase in their wages. NIRMAN 15 – November 2024 Workshop concluded today with 70 emerging adults setting out on a quest of a purposeful life. Though the workshop concluded, we believe the flourishing journeys of each of individuals has begun. We congratulate these ignited minds and wish them the best!

Participants of the NIRMAN 15 – November 2024 Workshop had yet another eventful day. On the day 3 of the campus, participants got the opportunity to know more about SEARCH along with a short tour of the campus. ‘Flourishing’ scientifically denotes the ‘thriving’ of an individual. NIRMAN has prepared a first-of-its-kind ‘Flourishing Framework’ for the young individuals in India. A detailed session on ‘Flourishing’ was conducted today during the NIRMAN 15 – November 2024 Workshop. This ‘Flourishing Framework’, coupled with the ‘Flourishing Questionnaire’ will certainly help our young participants to chart their own ‘Flourishing Journey’. NIRMAN 15 – November 2024 workshop began yesterday with 70 participants, coming from diverse educational and geographic backgrounds.
