AbstractAbstract
[en] We modify 0(n) models (n>2) in two dimensions so as to compare different theories with identical local properties and different global ones. Our 0'(3) model with a particular interaction has vortex-like configurations (π1(P2)=Z2) though it is locally equivalent to an 0(3) model (π1(S2)=0). Our results have been obtained by means of strong coupling methods. The Pade extrapolants show a critical value chisub(c) = 11.8. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] In order to quantify the WL variations for open pit mine conditions, a series of measurements was made at the Ranger uranium mine over a two week period. The parameters measured were temperature, wind speed, radon and radon daughter concentration and WL. A preliminary analysis of the data shows a correlation between WL and the reciprocal wind speed but no apparent correlation between wind speed and the equilibrium factor

AbstractAbstract
[en] We construct a gauge invariant superspace action in terms of unconstrained off-shell superfields for the D=10 supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theory. We use to this effect the point particle limit of the BRST charge of the covariantly quantized harmonic Green-Schwarz superstring and a general covariant action principle for overdetermined systems of nonlinear field equations of motion. One obtains gauge and super Poincare invariant equations of motion equivalent to the Nilsson's constraints for D=10 SYM. In the previous approaches (light-cone-gauge, component-fields) one would have to sacrifice either explicit Lorenz invariance or explicit supersymmetry while in the present approach they are both manifest. AbstractAbstract
[en] First we present the covariantly quantized space-time supersymmetric superstring. The main ingredients are additional auxiliary variables and their corresponding auxiliary gauge symmetries. They allow a Lorentz covariant gauge fixed lagrangian path integral which has the form of a free 2-dimensional conformal field theory with a finite number of 2-dimensional world-sheet fields and ghosts. Next we show that the path integral is anomaly free in 10 space-time dimensions. Then, by a canonical (operator) quantization we obtain in the point-particle limit the covariant equations of motion of the D=10 super Yang-Mills (SYM) theory. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] By further study of the geometry of the harmonic superspace constraints, we make explicit the relation between the operator and path integral approaches to the manifestly covariant harmonic superstring. In particular we find the correct complete set of functionally independent gauge symmetries for the auxiliary variables and identify the ones corresponding to the harmonic superfield postulate in the operator formalism. Then, we deduce in a systematic way the lagrangian path integral from the well defined covariant hamiltonian formulation of the GS superstring. (authors)

[en] Give a non-Abelian field of the form fsub(μγ)=f(x)fsub(μγ)(x) the author has found all possible potentials that generate a given field strength. The classes of non-gauge-equivalent potentials among them are established. These can be parametrized by the formula: Asub(μ)=B0(X0(x),X1(x))deltasub(μ)X0+B1(X0(x),X1(x))deltasub(μ)X1, where the functions B, X are defined in the text. The same problem has been solved for general non-Abelian gauge fields in 2-dimensions. It turns out that the classes of non-gauge equivalent potentials are in close correspondence for the two problems. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] We study the mechanism of the phase transition between the disordered and the algebraic-ordered phases of the XY model. We use a modified Monte Carlo procedure which permits tunneling between configurations with different numbers of free vortices. The results are marginally compatible with the standard Monte Carlo. Our data do not match the predictions of the vortex liberation scenario for the topological susceptibility. We interpret these results as lack of support for the K-T picture. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] [3H]epinephrine was injected into fetal rabbits through the uterine wall on day 26 of gestation in order to study placental transfer, and the uptake, retention and metabolism of the hormone in fetal tissues. Less than 0.1 per cent of the administered [3H] was found in maternal blood or within uninjected littermates. Accumulation of [3H]/g of tissue was greatest in the fetal kidney, liver and intestine, and less in the heart and lung. Levels of [3H] in the fetal serum, heart, lung and placenta were comparable in value at 5 and 30 min, but all fell by 60 min. In contrast, the fetal kidney and intestine showed a 2- to 4-fold accumulation of [3H] in 30 min as compared to 5 min, while the fetal liver exhibited a 10-fold accumulation over 30 and 60 min. [3H] metabolites present in fetal serum at 30 min, expressed as a per cent of the total radioactivity, were 45 per cent for metanephrine and 27 per cent of 0-methylated deaminated products, while 25 per cent was present as unmetabolized [3H]epinephrine. 0-methylated metabolites were predominant in the liver, where 85 per cent of the radioactivity comprised metanephrine in conjugated and un-conjugated forms. Administration of promethazine to the doe prior to injection of [3H]epinephrine into rabbit fetuses resulted in a 40 to 64 per cent decrease in accumulation of [3H] in the fetal brain, liver, lung, kidney, intestine and heart. The pattern of metabolites in the serum of promethazine-treated fetuses showed an increase in the per cent of [3H] in the 0-methylated, deaminated fraction from 27 to 37 per cent. While the total per cent of O-methylated metabolite was not altered in the liver of treated fetuses, metanephrine was predominantly present in the conjugated form. The liver of the rabbit fetus is an important site for accumulation of catecholamine metabolites and is pharmacologically sensitive to promethazine administered to the mother. (author)
