AbstractAbstract
[en] Employing an earlier elaborated computer program for simulation of depositing radon decay products: 214Po, 214Pb, 214Bi (214Po) on air filter and for computing variation of their activity against time, an assessment of errors was carried out of a methods employing measurement of 218Po + 214Po alpha activity in three time intervals. Additionally errors of the methods measuring 218Po + 214Po alpha activity in three, two and one time intervals, were assessed. A few attempts were also made to measure the alpha activity in different time intervals and to assess their measuring errors. (authors). 10 refs, 4 figs, 14 tabs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Irradiation of human lymphocytes with small doses of X-rays (1 cGy, 37 C). Evoked a 30 % decrease in the frequency of micronuclei upon subsequent X-irradiation (1.5 Gy, 37 C). The DNA damage and its repair rate were determined by the single gel electrophoresis assay (comet assay). The adaptive response, seen as reduced micronuclei frequency, is not accompanied by an increase rate in DNA repair. (author). 11 refs, 6 figs, 1 tab

AbstractAbstract
[en] The research work on the microbiological decontamination of the medical herbs by electron beam was carried out. The seven samples of the herbs granules were irradiated at the doses 3, 6 and 10 kGy. It has been shown, that D10 values are varied in several samples after irradiation. Additional, research work, by gas chromatographic method, on the composition volatile oils (salvia, orange, peppermint and anise), after irradiation at the dose 4.4 and 8.8 kGy was carried out. It was not significant differences in the compositions between control and irradiated oils. (author). 12 figs, 2 tabs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Comet assay is a new method for measuring DNA breakage in a single cell. The main applications of the method are estimation of DNA single and double strand breaks, oxidative damage, pyrimidine dimers and (6-4)photoproducts, DNA-DNA and DNA-protein crosslinks. The method is used for studying DNA damage and its repair. (author).19 refs, 9 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The report deals with a short history, achievements and trends of development of radiochemistry and nuclear chemistry in the world. It also presents the main achievements and short programmes of fundamental and applied research, as well as works on technology, as delivered by more than thirty research institutes and universities in Poland. The related teaching activities of Polish academic centers has been briefly discussed. The documents enclosed [list of publications (1997-2000; list of research groups; list of apparatus] bring a more detailed representation of the Polish research centers' activity in this field. AbstractAbstract
[en] Regression splines and fast Fourier transform (FFT) methods were used for smoothing the X-ray spectra obtained from the proportional counters. The programs for computation and optimization of the smoothed spectra were written in MATLAB languages. It was shown, that application of the smoothed spectra in the multivariate calibration can result in a considerable reduction of measurement errors. (author). 8 refs, 9 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The performance and architecture of artificial nuclear networks applied for calibration of radioisotope gauges are described. The two-layers feed-forward artificial neural networks (with back propagation) were investigated. Results of their application for calibration of some instruments based on XRF principle and intended for analysis and coating thickness gauging are presented. (author). 14 refs, 9 figs, 1 tab

AbstractAbstract
[en] Principles of the polynomial regression splines as well as algorithms and programs for their computation are presented. The programs prepared using software package MATLAB are generally intended for approximation of the X-ray spectra and can be applied in the multivariate calibration of radiometric gauges. (author)
