📜 New Arctic Circle Journal Entry 📜 ✍ The central role of science diplomacy in Arctic governance necessitates careful reflection on the social organization of such diplomacy. ✍ To leverage the collective expertise of Arctic networks, we need to better understand the social lives of these networks: how they work at the level of interpersonal interaction alongside institutional procedure. To do so, we must consider not only the content of what is said but also the context in which it is said: the social milieu of the discussion and the dispositions that underpin it. Thought and action happen in context: the structuring of the context enables particular kinds of thought and action. Read more: https://t.ly/H3mi3

Always a pleasure to participate in the Arctic Circle Assembly, this time in a discussion on how ecocide law can achieve transformational change in the Arctic region. Despite scientific recognition of the #arctic's delicate #ecosystems and the Arctic’s extension across multiple jurisdictions, formal protection of the region’s environment under international criminal law is not yet in place. An international crime of #ecocide has the potential to bring about a paradigm shift in attitudes and behaviors in relation to nature. Many thanks to my fellow panelists: Kate Macintosh from The UCLA Law Promise Institute Europe Monica Lennon MSP Prof Kristín Vala Ragnarsdóttir & moderator Andrés Ingi Jónsson MP 📷: Stop Ecocide International

I have worked on the slowing and the tipping point of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (known as AMOC) since 1991. Here is what we know now - the short 15 minute summary. AMOC slowing is already affecting our weather. The AMOC tipping point may change your childrens' life.

Past month, I had an amazing opportunity to volunteer at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik, Iceland. The assembly took place in Harpa concert hall in central Reykjavik. I took up the role of a volunteer leader where I was tasked to coordinate and organize a group of 7 volunteers from different parts of the globe. At the #ACA24, I attended sessions on the implications of geopolitics, security and climate change on the Arctic. I also got to network with big names in Canadian Arctic security discourse such as Whitney Lackenbauer, Jessica M. Shadian, Ph.D. I am looking forward to further collaborate with the connections I made at the Assembly.

📜 New Arctic Circle Journal Entry 📜 ✍ It is important that the traditional knowledge and #education systems that are already in place in #Indigenous communities are protected and supported. ✍ We need to educate about the colonial events from Indigenous standpoints to be able to acknowledge how historical events are still present in contemporary structure—that these are not mere concepts, but the reality of our lives. I am happy to share my Arctic Circle 2024 travel report. It was great to connect with new and old friends working on Arctic themes. I moderated a session which shared insights on community-led energy projects in Norway, US, Finland and Canada. I also served my university UiT- The Arctic University of Norway, spreading the gospel about our association with the The Arctic Six and other incredible courses available for master and PhD Students.
