📜 New Arctic Circle Journal Entry 📜 ✍ The central role of science diplomacy in Arctic governance necessitates careful reflection on the social organization of such diplomacy. ✍ To leverage the collective expertise of Arctic networks, we need to better understand the social lives of these networks: how they work at the level of interpersonal interaction alongside institutional procedure. To do so, we must consider not only the content of what is said but also the context in which it is said: the social milieu of the discussion and the dispositions that underpin it. Always a pleasure to participate in the Arctic Circle Assembly, this time in a discussion on how ecocide law can achieve transformational change in the Arctic region. Despite scientific recognition of the #arctic's delicate #ecosystems and the Arctic’s extension across multiple jurisdictions, formal protection of the region’s environment under international criminal law is not yet in place. An international crime of #ecocide has the potential to bring about a paradigm shift in attitudes and behaviors in relation to nature. Past month, I had an amazing opportunity to volunteer at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik, Iceland. The assembly took place in Harpa concert hall in central Reykjavik. I took up the role of a volunteer leader where I was tasked to coordinate and organize a group of 7 volunteers from different parts of the globe. At the #ACA24, I attended sessions on the implications of geopolitics, security and climate change on the Arctic. I also got to network with big names in Canadian Arctic security discourse such as Whitney Lackenbauer, Jessica M. Shadian, Ph.D. I am looking forward to further collaborate with the connections I made at the Assembly.

I am happy to share my Arctic Circle 2024 travel report. It was great to connect with new and old friends working on Arctic themes. I moderated a session which shared insights on community-led energy projects in Norway, US, Finland and Canada. I also served my university UiT- The Arctic University of Norway, spreading the gospel about our association with the The Arctic Six and other incredible courses available for master and PhD Students.
