From food to fuel, energy to shipping – the London-based company is on a mission to eliminate emissions at scale while disrupting and decentralising the dirty $75 billion ammonia market. “We have developed an incredibly energy-efficient chemical reactor that synthesises ammonia at a fraction of the cost and pollution of traditional electrochemical and Haber-Bosch systems”, says Dr Yubiao Niu, Co-founder and CSO at Nium. This is the world’s first grid-supportive solar hydrogen home – and it’s ready to power through winter❄️⬇️ Today, most buildings with PV systems and batteries have a major challenge. Too much electricity in summer and too little in winter. This places an increasing burden on distribution grids. And it requires fossil reserve power plants. This is where the #FlexEhome steps in. Its goal: • Providing both thermal & electrical energy self-sufficiency • While being able to contribute to the grid • Supplying energy very second of the year At its core is #picea, a long-term energy storage system by our partner HPS Home Power Solutions AG that draws on Enapter’s #AEM Electrolyser tech. A good year has passed now since a family moved into the building near Berlin. ▶️Time to take stock as the dark season has already begun: Picea has converted excess summer solar power into green hydrogen: With 3,000 kWh of H2 fully stored, the FlexEhome is ready for winter’s dark months. It even took advantage of sunny October days to top up the H2 supply. Hydrogen, being a gas, contracts as temperatures drop. This means storage pressure decreases with colder weather, even at full capacity. So, in October – and even one day in November – picea produced extra H2 to fill the newly available space. Combined with a heat pump and fuel cell waste heat, this system maximises energy use for the family through the cold season. Here’s how our updated MW-sized #AEM Nexus electrolyser ensures maximised green hydrogen production from intermittent renewables⤵️ Based on learnings from the successful deployment of pre-series systems, we further improved our modular 0.5 MW and 1 MW electrolyser systems. Here’s the AEM Nexus 1000 at a glance: • Power consumption: 53 kWh/kg H2 • Production rate: 210 Nm³/h | 453 kg/24h • Operational flexibility: 3-100% • Hydrogen purity: 99.999% with optional dryer • Outlet pressure: up to 35 barg Today, we’re excited to share the latest developments in these systems. Let’s dive deeper into the details: The updated AEM Nexus electrolyser container stands out with a 25% reduced footprint of 40 ft, which makes it easier to transport and quicker to set up. Further developments in the design of the system also make commissioning and maintenance easier. The proven modular and scalable design of the AEM Nexus remains in the updated series, offering the same exceptional flexibility for operating with fluctuating renewable energies. This megawatt electrolyser contains 420 AEM Stacks, which are organised in strings holding 10 modules each and assembled in a total of four sets. The individual strings can be ramped up or down independently of each other, allowing the system to react flexibly to fluctuating power loads. With operational flexibility of 3-100%, the AEM Nexus enables optimum utilisation of renewable energy with maximum efficiency and achieves a production capacity of around 450 kg of hydrogen per 24 hours. Another advantage of the system is its high reliability. Thanks to the AEM Nexus’s modular architecture, bottlenecks are minimised and single points of failure are eliminated. The system also remains operational during maintenance work as the set of strings undergoing maintenance can be switched off separately while the remaining three sets continue to produce green hydrogen. This minimises downtime and significantly reduces maintenance costs, maximises the availability of the system and ensures efficient hydrogen production. The beauty of green hydrogen. 💚 We designed this all-in-one #AEM Electrolyser system together with our Italian partner Loccioni. The 20ft container can accommodate to 42 single-core units at the same time. It enables our R&D team at the Enapter Campus to test all our different AEM EL 4 electrolyser modules (AC, DC, air-cooled, liquid-cooled) under one roof. This is how a European company is positioned to roll out multi-megawatts of #AEM Electrolyser capacity in China at high speed👇 Last year, we signed a framework supply contract worth more than €6 million with Wolong Electric Group Co., Ltd. - one of the world’s top three motor and drive manufacturers. In February 2024, our partnership entered into a new phase. We signed a Joint Venture agreement to form Wolong Enapter Hydrogen Technology Ltd. As China’s demand for AEM Electrolysers is increasing significantly compared to PEM systems, the ambitious goal is to gain a pioneering and substantial market share in the country’s growing green hydrogen sector. That’s why the JV team worked with urgency to make Enapter’s modular AEM Electrolysers competitive with existing technologies in China. After a very productive start at the Enapter facilities, the team continued with ongoing alignments both remotely and at Wolong’s facilities in Shangyu. Only 8 months later, the Wolong Enapter JV unveiled China’s first domestically-produced 1 MW AEM Electrolyser and started series production of AEM Nexus earlier last month. What a fantastic achievement in record time! The JV has also already signed several memoranda of understanding (MoU) for the AEM Nexus with companies in China. Wrapping up another fantastic two days at the Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe in #Hamburg: Once again, one thing stood out in particular⬇️ With over 15,000 visitors and a significantly growing international presence, the event proved to be a reflection of the growing hydrogen economy. Our team noted a highly interested specialist audience this year in Hamburg. Interestingly, this audience was surprisingly diverse – from private individuals to small businesses and industrial players. That made them the perfect match for Enapter’s modular #AEM Electrolysers, meeting hydrogen needs from kW scale up to the MW range. But what really stood out was this: 🤝 It’s all about strong partnerships.
