On 11-13 January 2025, MEDREG participated in the 15th session of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly. This year’s theme focused on energy security, socio-economic development and financing options. MEDREG President Branislav Prelevic participated in the roundtable session ‘Energy Transitions across the Mediterranean: Enabling Infrastructure for a Sustainable Future’. With its vast solar and wind resources, strategic location, and immense potential for #greenhydrogen, the #Mediterranean region has everything it needs to lead the world in a cleaner energy transition. As energy demands evolve and climate change requires urgent action, the Mediterranean stands as an energy powerhouse, ready to meet its own growing needs while supplying clean power to Europe and beyond. Mr. Prelevic contributed his perspective on the need for regulatory harmonisation of electricity, hydrogen, or derivatives to facilitate international trade. He provided an overview of the challenges the different types of commodities face and the way forward until 2030 to ensure regulatory alignment, infrastructure investment, market development, and political cooperation to unlock the potential of international trade in electricity, hydrogen, and their derivatives. In the margin of the General Assembly, President Prelević and the Secretariat have met with partner organisations, namely Med-TSO, Organisation Méditerranéenne de l'Energie et du Climat, Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and MEDENER to coordinate and organise upcoming joint activities.
