CTO Nishihara presents NEC's achievements at #COP29 🎤   At the ongoing 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Azerbaijan, NEC Cheif Technology Officer Motoo Nishihara spoke at a keynote session held at the UNFCCC Global Innovation Hub pavilion. During the session, he introduced NEC’s initiatives in adaptation finance—a business model promoting investments to mitigate the impacts of climate change—and showcased NEC’s cutting-edge technologies, sparking lively discussions with attendees. Nishihara highlighted, "In just one year since introducing the concept of combining technology with adaptation finance, we have successfully built an ecosystem for co-creation with other companies, achieving notable progress." In addition, Nishihara participated in a seminar hosted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications at the Japan Pavilion. 🎾 Last Sunday, the 2024 NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters, held at the Sportpark Molenbeke in Arnhem, concluded with a remarkable success, with all three singles finals going to thrilling three-set matches! 👏We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Tokito Oda, Yui Kamiji, and Niels Vink for securing the men’s, women’s, and quad titles, respectively, at this 30th Anniversary edition of the NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters. They made history by becoming the latest champions at the ITF’s year-end championships while also being Paralympic champions in the same season. ASNARO-1, developed and manufactured by NEC, becomes the first optical satellite in Japan to remain in operation for 10 years. When ASNARO-1 was launched on November 6, 2014, its design lifetime was initially estimated to be five years. However, thanks to advanced design and development technologies and stable, long-term operation, it continues to carry out observations even after being in operation for 10 years. NEC is responsible for the development and manufacturing of the satellite, while PASCO CORPORATION is placed in charge of ground system development and on-orbit operations. ASNARO-1 is an optical satellite that captures images of the earth’s surface just like a digital camera. Thus far, it has been used to capture more than 40,000 optical images, including photographic images taken in times of emergency and disaster such as the Kumamoto earthquake in April 2016 and the eruption of Mount Shinmoedake in March 2018. 🛰️ The satellite bus (i.e., the core equipment of a satellite that provides the basic functions) used in ASNARO-1 is NEC’s NEXTAR. I recently had the pleasure of hosting Young Sang Ryu, President & CEO of SK Telecom, the largest mobile operator in Korea, at NEC headquarters.     Both NEC and SK telecom share roots in the telecommunications industry and we are each now forming partnerships with global companies while applying AI to key business areas.   I truly appreciate the opportunity to meet with everyone from the SK telecom delegation, to strengthen our relationships and to explore new ways for creating value for society.     #NEC #NECGlobal #SKtelecom
