Several trainees under the Youth in Aquaculture Program visited our fish farm to learn some of the aquaculture technologies that we have at the farm. The trainees were keenly interested in the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) Aquaponics and Biofloc. They were taken around by our PhD student, Mr Nicholas Outa, whose research is on The Potential of NFT Aquaponics in Enhancing Water and Nutrient Use Efficiency in Food Production. Today, our VC, Prof. Nyabundi visited our Department to assess the research activities and projects. The Chairman Dr. Eric Ogello took him around and explained all that is happening around the fish farm, wet lab and fish hatchery.

One of our EU-funded PrAEctiCe project was represented at the ARBEC II Conference in Kisumu. We showcased the potential of Integrated Agriculture- Aquaculture (IAA) to enhance food and nutrition security, as envisioned in the Kenyan Blue Economy Strategy. #foodsecurity #partnerships #blueeconomy

Today, we hosted Fisheries Officers from 16 Counties at our Fish Farm. The officers are undergoing training sponsored by the Aquaculture Business Development Programme (ABDP). They were keen on learning about some of our climate smart aquaculture Technologies Innovations and Management Practices ( TIMPs).

We received visitors from Jumbo Fish Farm to our department. The team consisted of teachers and students from Val High School in Norway, specializing in Aquaculture, Energy, and Environment, as well as the vice president and Director of Information from the Norwegian Seafood Federation, which boasts a membership of 950 companies. The university is developing a collaborative MoU with Jumbo Fish Farm under The Aquaculture Consortium (TAC) for research collaboration and student exchange programmes.
