📢 Highlights from the First #MCR2030 Online Training for Nicosia! On 4 December, the online training session for Nicosia was conducted in collaboration with Nicosia Municipality, CYENS Centre of Excellence, and UNDRR team (GETI & ROECA). This engaging session brought together about 40 participants, not only from Nicosia but also from other regions, representing a diverse range of stakeholder groups. The training covered key aspects of disaster risk reduction, including practical tools like the MCR2030 scorecards and strategies for local action planning. A special highlight was the exchange of experiences and best practices shared by four MCR2030 Resilience Hubs: Câmara Municipal da Amadora, Lviv city council, Câmara Municipal de Matosinhos, and Provincia di Potenza. Their inspiring examples not only provided valuable insights but also fostered meaningful connections, paving the way for potential future collaborations. Over fifty participants from Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) attended a two-day training aimed at enhancing their knowledge to develop disaster risk management plans incorporating with climate change adaptation. This interactive session was designed to empower DDPM staff with the tools and knowledge to integrate resilience principles into their day-to-day disaster prevention and mitigation efforts. Key highlights included: 🌀 Exploring the link between climate change and disaster management and the growing need to manage uncertainties. 🔑 In-depth sessions on the 10 Essentials for Making Cities Resilient, fostering connections between national strategies and resilience-building initiatives. 📋 Hands-on activities using the Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities and climate resilience addendum, enabling participants to review current practices and identify actionable gaps. 💡 Collaborative brainstorming sessions to design projects aligned with resilience priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. 🌍 Highlighting the incredible local engagement and collaboration at the Europe & Central Asia Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction! It was inspiring to witness the active participation of 5 MCR2030 Resilience Hubs – Amadora, Greater Manchester, Lviv, Matosinhos, and Potenza – at the #EFDRR. Their commitment to urban resilience shone through numerous exchanges and discussions, showcasing how cities lead the way in DRR. We thank all #MCR2030 partners, including UNDP, ICLEI Europe and Resilient Cities Catalyst, for their dedicated contributions. Together, we tackled key themes like climate resilience, resilience finance, and local DRR actions, reinforcing the need for collaboration at all levels. 💡Key highlights from the EFDRR: 📌MCR2030 2024 2nd Regional Coordinating Committee Meeting: Held in a hybrid format, the RCC meeting brought together partners and Resilience Hubs to share insights, updates, and strategies for advancing urban resilience and DRR across Europe and Central Asia. New members (Lviv city council, Nordic Urban Resilience Institute) of the RCC were introduced. The collaborative discussions underscored the commitment to making cities resilient and adaptive to emerging risks. 📌MCR2030 Panel on Climate Emergency & Resilience Finance: This dynamic panel explored the growing challenges of #UrbanHeat, especially in densely populated areas, and explored inclusive strategies for mitigation and adaptation. Building on the insights from the first part, the session delved into the critical role of #ResilienceFinance and strategic governance in advancing #UrbanResilience. 📌Learning Lab on Local DRR Actions: This interactive session dived into practical, on-the-ground actions that cities can implement to reduce disaster risks. Participants discussed successes, challenges, and tools to enhance local resilience, reinforcing cities' critical role in achieving DRR goals. 📌Marketplace Booth: A hub of engagement, the marketplace booth featured the work of Resilience Hubs such as Potenza, Câmara Municipal da Amadora, Câmara Municipal de Matosinhos and the Portuguese Network of Resilient Cities. Alongside UNDP and a coalition of Balkan cities, they showcased initiatives, exchanged ideas, and promoted urban resilience, underscoring the importance of knowledge sharing and partnerships. 💪Thank you to everyone who contributed to and is driving these impactful initiatives. The #MCR2030 🆕 Disaster Displacement Addendum to the Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities can help local governments assess how well disaster displacement is integrated into their risk management and planning. 🌍🏙️ This tool was developed by Norwegian Refugee Council, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), IOM - UN Migration Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) & the Platform on Disaster Displacement, and was tested in workshops from Trinidad and Tobago to Iraq, Brazil, and Kenya.
