For many, living with a disability means navigating a world not built for them—one where poverty and exclusion amplify challenges. What does it take to create lasting change for persons with disabilities? On this International Day of People with a Disability, discover how BRAC’s approach goes beyond piecemeal solutions to build pathways for empowerment and inclusion. #disability #disabilityawareness #DisabilityDay #IDPD #brac

Girls and women across Uganda are tearing down systems that allow violence to persist. Mentors like Jamira are driving this change. Groups of 30 girls and young women meet every week with a mentor in clubhouses, which are designed as physical safe spaces near their homes. In these safe spaces, they not only access social and economic empowerment training but also have the chance to socialise in a safe environment, free of judgement. Studies from Uganda show these clubs delay early marriage and enable young women to learn, grow businesses and build incomes for themselves. Watch how Jamira together with thousands of girls and young women are transforming their own families and communities. #16DaysofActivism #StopTheViolence #noexcuses

We at BRAC are thrilled to be among the 82 countries, 24 international organizations, 31 philanthropies and non-profits, and 9 financial institutions that have joined the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty (and more are continuing to join!). This alliance is about #solutions and #action - not just empty talking. Collectively, we committed to #scale #evidence-based socioeconomic inclusion programs - like #Graduation - to reach an estimated 100 million people living in poverty by 2030. I had the pleasure of moderating the Socioeconomic Inclusion sprint in Rio De Janeiro, #Brazil, as part of the #G20 Social Summit and joining Minister Wellington Dias, Renato Godinho and Ambassador Nosipho Jezile for a press briefing on the Alliance. This event was unlike most global events - throughout the day we presented commitments to massively #scale what we already know works - alongside the people's summit where tens of thousands of Brazilian and global participants joined the festivities (and indeed sometimes interrupted the formality of the event to remind us that this work can be joyful and hopeful!). Thank you to the Government of #Brazil for their leadership in this initiative. Today marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence. Over the next few days, we will share stories of young women and girls overcoming countless barriers to reclaim their futures. These real-life accounts will attempt to shed light on how violence perpetuates across all spheres of a girl’s existence, all the way to her adulthood. Gender-based violence is rooted in gender inequality. Which is neither natural nor inevitable. It is a system that we can successfully disrupt, one woman at a time. Join us as we demand #NoExcuse for gender-based violence. #16DaysOfActivism #stoptheviolence #brac

Poverty plays a decisive role in how patients experience and access healthcare services. In many cases, patients don’t even know when and where to seek help. In countries where we work, the disparity in accessing healthcare is stark. In this series, we will look at the case of Uganda, where we have been working since 2006, to change systems of inequality through access to healthcare. Read the second story in our three-part series of how community health workers can make a significant difference to bridge existing gaps: https://lnkd.in/gMpfidR8

BRAC was awarded a $5 million grant from Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to alleviate poverty in #Indonesia and the #Philippines through 2027. This catalytic investment will contribute to BRAC’s collaboration with the Governments of Indonesia and the Philippines to integrate the evidence-backed #Graduation approach into existing #poverty alleviation policies and programmes to achieve greater, more lasting impact. BRAC has been supporting the design, delivery, adaptation, and expansion of the Graduation approach alongside partners since it pioneered the approach in Bangladesh in 2002 when it learned its existing poverty programmes were not adequately reaching those furthest behind. With the DIV grant, BRAC will work alongside the Governments of Indonesia and the Philippines to build complementary Graduation interventions into existing government systems, leveraging already allocated resources to drive down overall costs while delivering highly effective poverty alleviation programmes. Over the next decade, BRAC plans to expand these efforts to reach millions more households and contribute to the national poverty alleviation goals of both countries. https://lnkd.in/e47-Tsek #development #USAID

All children have a right to education. And play is an integral part of how children learn. BRAC’s Humanitarian Play Labs are based on the core principle of learning and healing through play. We work with local governments and communities with the aim to offer children in fragile settings access to activities that research shows help build and nurture young children’s brains. Watch how teachers and students interact at a play lab in Tanzania: https://lnkd.in/g5jYfnE6 This World Children's Day, let's commit to upholding each and every child’s rights and move towards a better world – today, tomorrow and into the future. #ChildrensRights #WorldChildrensDay #EducationForAll
