This Mental Health Week highlights the critical role of mental well-being in addressing Europe’s pressing challenges on all fronts. At Monday’s #EPC event, Polish Ambassador Agnieszka Bartol, as the key speaker, emphasized mental health—particularly for young people and children—as a priority for the Polish presidency. Mental health was framed as essential to societal resilience, with key takeaways including: prioritizing youth mental health to ensure a resilient and forward-looking Europe. We are looking forward to tonight’s event from Mental Health Europe, Threads of Being: Mental Health and Community Arts Exhibition, which highlights the role of arts and culture in fostering connection and healing. #Mentalhealth must be central to EU policy, intertwined with economic and social strategies, to build a Europe that is both resilient and inclusive.
WE ARE OPEN! 🙌 The art exhibition “Threads of Being: Mental Health and Community Arts – A Creative Call to Action for the Future Mental Health in Europe” is finally here! 📅 11-15 December ✨ Special event on Thu 12 Dec at 12:30 | Towards Braver Spaces - guided meditation by Tundé Adefioye 🕒 Exhibition opening times: 12:00-17:00; Sat: 12:00-18:00 🎟️ Free entrance; no reservations required What to expect: ✅ Works of art by people with lived experiences of mental health issues and their supporters; ✅ A deeply human dialogue about how art can help us understand, express, and improve our mental health; ✅ A call to all those who strongly believe mental health awareness should be a priority to connect, learn, and be inspired for change. With Cécile Heriard, Gianni FRANCO, Iveta Nagyova, Alain Warnery and Baptiste Trichet, we would like to thank all participants of the first European forum on non-pharmacological (or non-phamaceutical) interventions (#NPI). The larger-than-expected attendance from Europe and beyond (26 countries in all 😊) shows that the subject is important for human health, not only in Europe. It raises questions that our institutions are not yet in a position to answer. The speakers have succeeded brilliantly in laying the foundations for a open, pragmatic and humanist discussion with science at the centre. Reclaiming free will A common argument against public health policies is: “You’re taking away our free will—to eat, drink, and enjoy life as we choose.” But is it truly free will if we lack the facts to make informed decisions? True free will requires informed consent, a principle deeply rooted in EU law, medicine, and consumer rights. Whether in healthcare—where patients must be fully informed of risks—or in consumer protection—where transparency is required for fair choice—the foundation is the same: consent is impossible without knowledge. When industries obscure health impacts or manipulate facts, they rob us of the agency they claim to protect. Advocating for transparency and evidence-based policies isn’t about limiting freedom—it’s about enabling it. Free will without informed consent is an illusion. Let’s reclaim the narrative and ensure true freedom for all. #FreeWill #InformedConsent #PublicHealth #ConsumerRights #Advocacy #EuphaHereForYou

🌍 Tackling the Global Burden of Alcohol Yesterday I attended the International Scientific Symposium organised by EuroHealthNet and Santé publique France addressing the global burden of alcohol. Experts addressed the need to translate evidence into actionable policy, countering misinformation, and engaging communities—especially youth—to drive policy change. The day ended at the European Parliament for European Alcohol Policy Alliance - Eurocare launch of this year's Awareness Week on Alcohol Related Harm with the theme "Alcohol Labelling: The Right to Know". Key takeaways of the day: ✅ Evidence-based messaging linking alcohol to health risks, such as cancer, is vital for behavior change. ✅ Unified action among public health stakeholders is essential to counter industry influence and advocate for stronger measures like mandatory labeling. ✅ Exploring alcohol harm reduction through a climate action lens creates a compelling argument for reform. These discussions reinforced the need for evidence-based, inclusive, and sustainable strategies—core pillars of EUPHA's 2025–2030 strategy. Together, we can ensure public health solutions address complex challenges and leave no one behind. In what ways do you think alcohol production impacts our environment and climate? #PublicHealth #AlcoholPolicy #EquityForAll #OneHealth #HiaP WHO Regional Office for Europe #EUPHA #AlcoholRightToKnow #CanWeBeSeriousNow
