In our November Pānui, our final one of 2024, two of our senior consultants, Danette Abraham (also Director) and Gwyn John share why they participated in the hikoi in Wellington on November 19th and how kotahitanga is so critical to who they are as individuals and to us as a collective at Leadership Lab. Read in full on our website here: https://lnkd.in/gdHnuPvm On our website, you can also access a number of other resources that align with one of our 5 impact areas - Giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi - including the Becoming Tangata Tiriti podcast, which Gwyn is also part of. About us
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, he toa takitini Our strength is not as individuals, but as a collective The Leadership Lab team is a vibrant and diverse mix of people bringing experience, knowledge and a real passion to life and leading. We operate as a collective with a wide range of individuals teaming up to contribute to a range of projects while also supporting and developing each other in the process. Our Leadership Lab team covers all of New Zealand/Aotearoa and through the extensive network of robust and trusting relationships where we form partnerships with local leaders. We believe that the scale and complexity of the issues that many organisations and communities face are beyond the scope of the leadership approaches that have served us well in the past. However, collectively leaders have the vision, will and resources to co-create new approaches to address these most complex and challenging issues. Leadership Lab’s purpose is to support the emergence of flourishing organisations and communities. Our unique bi-cultural heritage provides a rich resource of wisdom and insight that informs the practice of collective leadership. As an organisation that has its home in Aotearoa, we acknowledge and draw from that wisdom. Respecting and valuing the unique cultural identity of each person and community allows us all to contribute our gifts and thrive together The Leadership Lab team works and thinks in a connected, systemic and long-term way. We document personal stories and share practical ideas about collective leadership to support and inspire.

In this blog post on her website, www.thinkbeyond.co.nz, one of our Strategy team and Senior Consultants, Cheryl Doig, shares her thoughts with an international audience titled "Treaty Futures: What next? https://lnkd.in/gYUTwxqK Cheryl shares her own heritage and whakapapa while exploring a range of events in Aotearoa, including the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill, the Hikoi, the haka in Parliament and the coalition. Cheryl writes, "Those I spoke to at the Dubai Future Forum did not see the haka as ridiculous, on the contrary they were in awe of Māori standing up for their rights" and quotes Dame Jenny Shipley "I just despise people who want to use a treasure – which is what the Treaty is to me – and use it as a political tool that drives people to the left or the right, as opposed to inform us from our history and let it deliver a future that is actually who we are as New Zealanders". She finally invites readers to make a submission on the "Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill", which closes on January 7th. At Leadership Lab NZ, we are writing our own submission this week strongly opposing the Bill, and many of us are also writing our own individual submission. Join us in prioritising this important action before Christmas! #toitūtetiriti #collectiveimpact #collaborativeleaderhip
I have been considering my worldview regarding the Treaty Principles Bill and all of the conversations that surround this. I have had so many conversations about this with my global colleagues that I thought it was time to put some thoughts together. Definitely a work in progress! I recognise that there are diverse views on this subject so you don't need to reiterate them. Any futures discussion starts with considering our own assumptions and how they came to be. That is what I have tried to articulate and I hope you will take time in the lead up to Christmas to also think about your own assumptions and how they impact on future directions. That is a great place to begin for us all. AI will only continue to evolve! What's the plan for educators? Stephen shared with Breakfast some of the promising approaches being taken and research being done here in Aotearoa (and pulled out his Dad joke skills, too 😅). #education #onlinelearning #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #teachers #artificialintelligence

We at Leadership Lab NZ, both Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti are all committed to giving effect to the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The Rangatira always intended these to create a space for all cultures to live together in Aotearoa, and we are fully committed to playing our part in advocating for Ōritetanga - addressing inequities due to the breaches of this agreement over the last 180+ years. The sooner we can put the distraction and futility of this current Govt Bill aside and continue on the work of creating equity for all, the better. That’s what we at Leadership Lab NZ are committed to. We are a Tiriti o Waitangi-led, impact-focused leadership consultancy. We grow leaders in Aotearoa, New Zealand, who develop equitable and flourishing communities and organisations. https://lnkd.in/g3weG4F Tautoko to all those at the Hikoi today in Pōneke - Wellington. https://lnkd.in/gZ5Kt-Vc Chris Jansen Danette Abraham Jodi ( Te Aomarama) Apiata Cheryl Doig Pete Cammock Greg Jansen Tayla Taylor Jason Pemberton Erica Austin Darren Rewi Wiremu Gray Fi (Fiona) Deehan Daisy Lavea-Timo Tammi Martin Sooze Harris Wikitoria Kurene Cooper Sides Carolyn Stuart Judy Bruce Jennifer Chowaniec Stephen McConnachie Mahlon Saumalu Steve Jones-Poole Kath Harrison Libby Davenport Moira Mallon #collectiveimpact #toitūtetiriti

Gosh, I am proud to be a kiwi - with strong grounding in anti-colonial education. THIS is the conversation happening RIGHT NOW in New Zealand Aotearoa. About the need to uphold and honour indigenous rights, and also, the direct link between capitalism and colonisation; and the need for the prevailing current economic system to continue to benefit from continued expansion at the sake of profit over people. When will we truly understand that this is just one system; one mindset; one history - that offers us no solutions? Yes, it's uncomfortable. Yes, it's confronting. But oh gosh; it offers us so much! The rights of indigenous peoples are under attack, everywhere. NZ MP Chloe Swarbrick everyone 👇

In October's pānui, we profile a key collaborator from our Rourou project, Plains FM. They have worked with Leadership Lab through the evolution of the Rourou Conversations show and podcast over the past 2 years. When Fi approached Laura at Plains FM with an idea back in 2022, they had no idea that it would become 6 series discussing inequity, leadership and systems change in a range of settings and sharing the stories of incredible humans willing to speak up and speak their truth about their personal and professional experiences. To celebrate this, we asked Nicki Reece, Plains FM Station Manager, to tell us about their mahi, what makes them who they are and their experiences of collaborating with Leadership Lab. https://lnkd.in/g82xnZPu Plains FM96.9 Nicki Reece Fi (Fiona) Deehan
