Turou, ora mai! Tupaia STEAM School term 2 is starting next week 🌅 Tuesday afternoons are full but we do have spaces available in our Thursday programme for 14-18 year olds. Tupaia STEAM School aims to provide students with a creative, culturally grounded learning environment to develop fundamental skills, experience a variety of industry partnerships and fulfil a pathway into STEAM careers 🌊Shaping a new generation of master navigators into STEAM industries 🌊

#TuituiTangata is touring and has travelled to our friends at Ashburton Art Gallery 🌺 Exhibition opening is scheduled for 27 April at 6.30pm. "The Cook Island Māori word tuitui translates to the act of stitching and tangata means people. Tuitui Tangata reflects the integral role Tivaevae occupies in connecting time and space, intergenerational teaching, and connections between Cook Islands people and the natural world. This exhibition showcases a wide range of creativity, highlighting the limitless possibilities in designs, colours, and vibrancy". This opening coincides with the opening of group exhibition Legacy Issues and Ynes Guevara’s Altar, Beautifying Understanding, so it is sure to be a fantastic evening. #Tivaevae #KukiAirani #ArtOfThePacific #FibreGallery #CookIslands

TechFest is taking place next month, starting on 20th May, and we are excited to be a part of it. Wednesday is 'A Day for Tamariki' with 'Woven Cultures in Digitech'. "A fun, inspiring day at Tūranga for 180 kids of ages 8-11 to experience digital and technology career inspiration from awesome people intertwining their culture with technology. Talks, hands on workshops, kai and community." 🌅 That's a wrap for Tupaia STEAM School Term 1 '24! And the end of our term diving into the world of Vai | Water - Moana | Ocean 🌅 🌊We started off by researching water purification, sanitation & irrigation in the Pacific, presented our findings, & then got a chance to install irrigation at the #ŌtautahiGardenClimateCampus. 🌊 We travelled to #Pūharakekenui Styx Living Laboratory Trust & met with Courtney to do water testing and check out a spring-fed ecosystem. 🌊 We travelled to UC Civil and Natural Resources Engineering where we met with PhD candidate Honor who showed us around the engineering block & connected our research with the opportunities UC has to offer. 🌊 We went on a guided tour around University of Canterbury with staff from the UC #PacificDevelopmentTeam. 🌊 We ended with an amazing #WakaAma experience with Chris Johns & the opportunity to connect with te moana. What a great evening to appreciate the work of Tui Emma Gillies and open her impressive exhibition titled 'View From the Deep'. The occasion included words from Tui with her mother, poetry from Tusiata Avia, tapa ngatu art, and AI-generated videos informed by the tapa art! As I looked around the room, at the people and the art, I saw a clear reflection of Tagata Moana Trust vision of STEAM industries where #PacificPeoples thrive and are propelled forward by #AncestralInnovation. The exhibition will be showing until 12th May. #FibreGallery is open 10am-4pm on Wed-Fri and located at 285 Cashel St.

Considered a #FabricOfLife it is made from the paper mulberry tree, (Broussonetia papyrifera), and is central society, culture and spirituality for many cultures.
