The Shelter Turns 10. It wouldn't be an event without a party at The Shelter. Thank you to everyone who joined us last Friday to celebrate the store and brand's 10th Birthday in true dark fashion, with a Halloween party. “We have been on quite an adventure since we first opened the doors in 2014. We’ve doubled the number of racks in the store, opened up the doors to our South Island Flagship, and fostered a new program that supports our emerging local talent. It’s not often that I take a step back and reflect on all the years, both the good and the challenging, so I want to say thank you. To all the designers and the brands who trusted our vision from the beginning. To our clients, friends and most importantly our shelter team who have become part of The Shelter family.” - Vicki Taylor, Creative Director. A special thank you to Batched, AF Drinks, Dancing Water Wines and Schweppes for keeping us hydrated on the evening.

The Breast Cancer Cure tees are back! This year, Vicki has collaborated with New Zealand artist Rebekah Farr to create a visual metaphor for shifting our context or reframing our thoughts. A hand-inked Wairarapa landscape creates the background giving texture and the illusion of space. The foreground is clouded by atmospheric rain, creating a beautiful textural impression. Sometimes we all need to escape our everyday reality for a while. The tees are available for pre-order on the Breast Cancer Cure website until Sunday, November 10th. Tees will be shipped from December 9th just in time for Christmas. Shop them here: https://lnkd.in/ge4wZAfa

We’ve always been passionate about exploring the connections between fashion, art and personal expression. Recently, we had the privilege of partnering with renowned New Zealand auction house, Webbs to host an intimate panel discussion in their Wellington Gallery. The panel discussed the intersection of fashion and art, and how clothing can be considered an art form in itself, with Vicki sharing her thoughts on curating a collection of garments that can last a lifetime. A special thanks to Webbs. To our panellists; artists Julia Morison and Virginia Woods-Jack and Webbs' Karen Rigby, and to Dancing Water Winery Limited for our lovely wines.

Last Thursday we had the privilege of hosting Kiri Nathan MNZM in our Wellington Boutique to celebrate her pop-up during World of WearableArt Ltd Whilst we had an incredible afternoon in-store with clients, chatting all things clothing and design, one set of visitors stood out to me the most. Niša Hasanbegović, a teacher at South Otago Highschool, brought her students in while they were in town for the show. Whilst the school doesn't offer soft-technology classes, Nisa is teaching them in her home after school to ensure students have access to a range of skills and opportunities. I've attached the email Nisa sent to my team in-store after the event. It's interactions like this that keep our little industry going and left such an impression on me during my trip to Wellington. Thanks to Kiri and all the lovely clients and friends that popped in last week.

It's been a big few weeks in the taylor workroom as our team get through new collection arrivals, events up and down the country and the end of a successful August. It was a great reminder to take a break with the team to celebrate all their hard work with a personalised Mr. Whippy delivery before getting through the next lot of quality control for spring arrivals.
