In a shifting geopolitical landscape, with the return of full scale war to the European continent, energy security has even become more important. For that reason, it’s no surprise that like-minded European countries like Lithuania and the Netherlands are looking for ways to work together in the energy transition.   The Offshore Wind Trade Mission to Lithuania has come to a successful close, leaving us with valuable insights and new pathways for collaboration between the Netherlands and Lithuania. Over the past two days, we’ve witnessed the potential of offshore wind to transform the Baltic energy landscape. After a warm welcome by our Ambassador, Jack Twiss Quarles van Ufford, the Dutch delegation had the privilege of hearing from Lithuania’s Minister of Energy, Dainius Kreivys, who shared exciting news: the next Offshore Wind tender of 700 MW will be launched on November 18th! Minister Kreivys also noted that with rapidly growing energy needs and the expectation of massive deployment of green energy innovations, offshore wind farms are perhaps the most efficient way for countries to secure large amounts of green electricity.   Lithuania’s vision for energy independence was further outlined by Vice-Minister Daiva Garbaliauskaitė, who highlighted the country’s updated National Energy Independence Strategy. By 2030, Lithuania aims to reach 10 GW of renewable energy capacity, both onshore and offshore, positioning the country as a key player in the region’s energy security.   As highlighted at the conference, the future of offshore wind is not just about individual projects but about its critical role in expanding electricity generation capacity, boosting economic growth, increasing regional security, and achieving decarbonisation. Offshore wind represents the future energy lungs of Europe, providing the oxygen for Europe's economic growth and prosperity.   In the final panel, moderated by our honorary consul Jurgita Šilinskaitė-Venslovienė, experts spoke about the latest developments in the port sector that could bring opportunities for both Dutch and Lithuanian companies.   Dutch companies played a crucial role in this mission, engaging in B2B matchmaking with Lithuanian companies. This mission, organized in collaboration with LinkedbyOffshoreWind and supported by Ignitis Lietuva, signifies a great step forward in realizing our shared energy ambitions. The importance of these ambitions was emphasized by our Ambassador; “Offshore wind is not just about generating power. It’s about ensuring that power is reliable, sustainable, and resilient in the face of challenges. It’s about reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and increasing our energy independence.”   Thank you to everyone involved for making this a successful and insightful event! Dutch consultancy company Pondera has joined forces with Finnish #consultants Etha Oy and Sitowise. The aim of the cooperation is to bring Finnish #offshorewind projects to the market by combining their knowledge. https://lnkd.in/e36x7HTQ

Just wrapped up my three day visit at WindEnergy Hamburg and I am walking away with many new contacts and fresh perspectives on the industry at large and what to explect in the Baltic region. There was high anticipation during the network drink that we organised together with NedZero - Wind Energy Association and Brennus van Os van den Abeelen and Bert van der Lingen with participation of a Finish, Latvian, Estonian and Polish delegations. It was great to mix and mingle with you. Thank you to NedZero for the hospitality. Thank you Veera Villikari Pekka Pokela and so many others for joining. We have participated in mixers with the Polish Offshore Wind Industry Chamber (PIMEW) and with The Polish Wind Energy Association and Piotr Czopek, Dominika Taranko Jakub Budzyński. Thank you for inviting us. Insights after three days discussing with participants: Strong increase in participation and expo m2-ers at wind energy Hamburg from the Chinese sector. There is no denying that they have a big apetite for the European markets. We noticed no unified opinion from the industry during WindEnergy Hamburg on how to approach this, however our counterparts from the Baltic Countries are advocating a stronger emphasize on promoting the european supply chains. Construction of ORLEN S.A.’s Baltic Power project starts at the end of this year. Heavy lift installation vessel Svanen by Van Oord will soon arrive in the Polish harbour. The Finnish market is further developing. EEZ zone new legislation is to be expected in Q1 2025. The first tender expected to start in December 2025. Which area’s and how many GW still to be determined. We are going with a group of 20 mission participants to Finland next week for the Windfinland conference to find out more details. It is always a pleasure to return to the classroom desks. This time as lecturer together with Piet Warnaar. Together we presented the second session of Knowledge-to-Knowledge Program (K2K Program), as a part of the LinkedbyOffshoreWind partnership, which was held at the Gdynia Maritime University. This meeting titled ‘Creating a Knowledge Ecosystem” was aimed at exchanging knowledge and experience in the field of offshore wind energy between industry experts and representatives of Polish universities. Five universities have been invited to participate in the K2K Program. The discussions focused on building an effective knowledge ecosystem that can accelerate the development of offshore wind energy in Poland. During the session, special attention was paid to the role of international cooperation. In the workshop we presented several models and best practices from the Netherlands on how to bring the public and private sector as well as the knowledge institutions together to create clusters that can tackle problems or approach the foreign market together.
