Last Friday, our seniors at CareElderly@Golden Ginger Active Ageing Centre were treated to a heartwarming Christmas celebration, organised by Hypertherm Associates Singapore! The festive event kicked off with a fun DIY mosaic coaster activity, where our seniors had the opportunity to create their own unique coasters with guidance from the volunteers. The seniors were so focused on perfecting their crafts, each one carefully and intricately placing the mosaic tiles in their desired arrangements. To add to the holiday spirit, the Hypertherm Associates team brightened up the centre by donating and setting up a stunning Christmas tree. The seniors then had the joy of decorating it with ornaments and handwritten Christmas wishes. The programme concluded with a buffet meal, and every senior was gifted a goodie pouch containing practical items like a reusable shopping bag. We are incredibly grateful to Hypertherm Associates Singapore for putting their heart into curating and executing such a wholesome programme for our seniors. One of them even took the microphone to personally thank the team for the meaningful day, sharing that he will cherish the coaster that he made. We deeply appreciate corporate partnerships like this, which bring warmth and love to our beneficiaries in the way they appreciate most. We recently organised and concluded a four-day drumming workshop in collaboration with GLP and Do Good International Foundation, which saw participants comprising 31 students from St. Gabriel’s Primary School (SGPS), 8 beneficiaries from Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home, and 20 beneficiaries from Gladiolus Place. Led by Jo Brooke, a seasoned music educator with extensive experience teaching children in schools across rural China, the workshop offered more than just an introduction to the art of Chinese drumming – it was an opportunity for participants from the three communities to connect, explore and share in the joy of music-making. Jo guided everyone in discovering their unique drumming rhythms, creating an environment that encouraged each participant to express themselves confidently and authentically. What also touched our hearts were the sincere exchanges that unfolded between participants. The students from SGPS were excellent venue hosts, taking the initiative to gift each beneficiary with a handwritten card to make them feel welcome. This spirit of kindness extended beyond among the participants, as the beneficiaries also created thank-you cards for the working team, expressing their appreciation for everyone who contributed to making this workshop possible. Witnessing the emotional maturity displayed by these young ones through their thoughtful acknowledgement of others, was a very heartwarming sight for us. We would like to extend our gratitude to the following partners: - GLP and Do Good International Foundation for sponsoring this workshop and GLP Spring Charity for providing necessary equipment to ensure its success - Jo Brooke (under GLP Hope Schools’ Spring Programme) for drawing on her expertise in music education to create a meaningful experience for the participants - St. Gabriel’s Primary School for availing their campus as a venue for the workshop and inviting their students as participants of the workshop - Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home and Gladiolus Place for inviting and gathering their beneficiaries to be part of this workshop - UOB for providing volunteers who played a supportive role throughout sessions, ensuring the safety and well-being of the participants As the operator of SG Cares VG @ Geylang and Serangoon, it was rewarding to have coordinated this meaningful collaboration that brought diverse stakeholders together. Recently, a need arose in the community – we learnt of a senior in Serangoon who required adult diapers, specifically diapers from TENA. As the operator of the SG Cares Volunteer Centre @ Geylang and Serangoon, we saw this as an opportunity to invite TENA Singapore to partner with us to meet this need, and reached out to explore a potential collaboration. TENA Singapore responded quickly and generously to address the senior’s needs, providing not only the required incontinence products but also additional care items. Together, we personally delivered these products to the senior’s doorstep, had the opportunity to connect with her and her caregiver, plus explored further ways we could offer support to them. This collaboration marks the first of what we hope will be many with TENA Singapore. Their commitment to providing comfort and dignity by addressing community needs aligns with our mission to equip individuals and families for empowered living, and we are thankful for their swift action in mobilising resources to make a difference. Thank you, TENA Singapore, for partnering with us to create a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals!

Food security is a concern faced by many low-income families and seniors in Serangoon, particularly those living in the rental blocks at Lorong Lew Lian. In response to this, SG Cares Volunteer Centre @ Serangoon operated by Care Community Services Society facilitated a partnership with CARE Singapore, St. Gabriel’s Secondary School (SGSS) and Yeo Hiap Seng (Yeo’s) to organise a food donation and delivery drive that distributed essential care packs to those in need. The drive involved over 340 Secondary One students and teachers from SGSS, and more than 20 staff members from Yeo’s Singapore – including their CEO, Mr Ong Yuhhwang – in distributing a total of 300 care packs. Delivering the care packs to individual housing units in the area was no easy task, but the challenges were overshadowed by the greater purpose of bridging a gap in the community and the spirit of compassion carried by every student and staff involved. It was a heartwarming sight to see all stakeholders aligned in their commitment to social responsibility. We would like to thank our partners for bringing this initiative to fruition through their sincere efforts: - Yeo Hiap Seng (Yeo’s): For sponsoring all the food items in the care packs and providing staff support on the event day. - St. Gabriel’s Secondary School: For mobilising students and staff to deliver care packs personally to the homes of low-income families. - CARE Singapore: For assisting in the execution of this collaborative initiative as our community partner. This collaboration definitely showcased the unity of different communities coming together to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Last Saturday, we organised a Digestive Health Workshop for the residents of MacPherson, in collaboration with Go With The Motion - a non-profit bridging the gaps in access to adult diapers for low-income individuals in Singapore! The event welcomed 49 seniors who gained understanding about improving their digestive health and managing incontinence through the workshop. Attendees also learned about community resources, including Go With The Motion's free diaper delivery services for low-income households – this created greater awareness about their cause and expanded their impact within the MacPherson community 🙌🏼 This workshop was a timely and much-needed initiative for the growing elderly population in MacPherson, especially given the rising concern around adult incontinence care. We would also like to thank the following partners for making this workshop possible: People's Association (MacPherson Community Club): For providing venue and outreach support, ensuring the event reached seniors within the MacPherson vicinity. Xiang Jun Dr Lim: For drawing on her 19 years of experience as a TCM physician to offer invaluable insights on optimising gut health. Aire: For sponsoring incontinence products, providing seniors with access to essential care items. Ma Kuang TCM 马光中医: For sponsoring wellness goodie bags, which were distributed to attendees and seniors at nearby Active Ageing Centres. It was heartening to see partners come together to uplift less-privileged seniors and address their needs holistically, empowering them to take charge of their health. Empowering Seniors: Joining us again, 101 DBS People of Purpose volunteers from the DBS Shopping with Seniors program brought 100 seniors from CareElderly@Circuit and CareElderly@Golden Ginger on a memorable day out. It started with a wokshop on scam prevention and digital payments, and was followed by a shopping excursion at FairPrice Xtra @ Kallang Wave Mall. We thank the generous support of DBS for sponsoring the seniors with $50 NETS Prepaid Cards and transportation! “Our seniors appreciated the companionship of the volunteers, and the shopping session was a great mood-lifter for many. Some seniors even chose to spend most of the time talking to their volunteer partner instead of shopping! It really shows how both parties really enjoyed and appreciated the time of interaction and activity," observed Senior Programme Executive (CareElderly@Golden Ginger) Kimberly Chua.
