  • In October 2024, we conducted three workshops with students from Jurong Pioneer Junior College, giving them the chance to get hands-on while unwinding from exam stress! 🥳 Swipe to see what the students created 🤩 They got their creative juices flowing and tried their hand at making paper, avocado seed buttons, beeswax wraps, recycled plastic keychains, and their own shower steamers, showcasing the endless possibilities everyday items can offer! What sustainability practices should companies in Singapore already have in place? 🤔 As sustainability becomes essential in business, companies are expected to adopt practices that promote greener habits among employees and improve daily operations. Having worked with over 600 companies over the past six years, Green Nudge believes these are three key sustainability practices every business should implement to meet employee and consumer expectations. • Does ageing mean missing out on outdoor adventures and staying cooped up indoors? Definitely not! 🌿 👣 In October 2024, we teamed up with NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine to bring seniors from Lions Befrienders on an intertidal walk at Changi Beach. As they excitedly pointed out different creatures 🦀 🐚, we were reminded of the importance of keeping seniors active and engaged. Many are eager learners with stories to share and wished for even more time to explore with friends! 🌞 🌊 We cherished the opportunity and look forward to more adventures with other seniors! 💚 #greennudge #makegreenthenorm #greenmovement #intertidalwalk #marinelife #activeageing #seniors

  • If the issue of climate change is such a big one, then surely the way to go towards tackling it is to break this down into small parts and for each of us to work on specific areas. With so many sustainable development goals, organisations and initiatives each having our own focus, learning how to create partnerships is crucial so that we can begin working with each other. It flows that we should consider learning how to build and maintain financial and social capital. We are grateful that EB Impact gave us a chance to share this with participants who are open to giving this a try. We look forward to sharing our experiences with many others willing to hear and experiment together and towards making green the norm :)

What other capacity-building workshops have our Sustainability Exchange youths been a part of? Our third workshop focused on the crucial topic of “Grant Writing and Partnerships.” We are thrilled to collaborate with Green Nudge for this session. When we discussed the challenges our youth groups encounter while approaching companies or applying for grants with Heng Li Seng, he immediately understood their concerns. Having launched his own social enterprise and built a team over the past six years, Li Seng has faced similar hurdles and gained valuable insights along the way. Here are some the best insights we've gained from our workshop with him: 1. Connecting with people on different levels: When speaking with individuals, groups, and organisations, consider their unique perspectives. While organisations often prioritise tangible metrics and statistics, individuals may be more drawn to a shared vision or personal connection. 2. The community element of sustainability: Sustainability projects can thrive through a "double-edged" approach, addressing both social and environmental impacts. Anecdotally, he also shared how companies most resonate with a human element to a project. 3. General tips in grant-writing: Steer clear of vague, feel-good statements that lack substantial relevance to your project + Be practical and specific about the funding ask and how you plan to utilise it. Eager to catch the final stop of our participants Sustainability Exchange journey? Catch them put their best foot forward and compellingly pitch their solutions on 5 November, from 230pm - 530pm. • We recognise that not every event can create zero waste and that's not really a realistic ideal at times. However, every event has the potential to minimise waste and we are glad that we could support Common Ground Civic Centre & Consultancy's efforts during the Creating Narratives For Change Festival! If you are looking to minimise your waste output, please do consider the following (common) three waste streams: 1) Food -> Order what you need, not what you think your participants need. And plan in advance on what to do with excess food e.g. bringing additional containers or share with the community. 2) Disposables -> Communicating that you are trying to minimise disposable waste help in your event channels and encourages participants to bring their own in advance. The lowest hanging fruits include cups, cutlery and containers! Make it easier by also having washing areas (including washrooms) for people to wash their reusable containers! 3) Event related waste -> If your event goes beyond one session or one day, consider reusing items like lanyards so that they can be reused for other events. These are super helpful for branding during the event but surely they must also be put to good use after the event. Ensure that anything you are giving out remains useful and functional after the session. Thank you again to the Common Ground team for allowing us to experiment what it is like to make an event green(er)! With the upcoming year end celebrations and festivities, do consider getting your organisation or colleagues to take one small step in becoming greener!

Our goal at Creating Narratives for Change Festival 2024 was to go green-er. The mission was to reduce, not eliminate. And thanks to the green tips from Green Nudge, mission accomplished! Here’s what we learnt from running a green-er event for the first time: 1. Intention is key! While it was not operationally feasible for the festival to go 100% green, having the intention AND making a public declaration helped us be more mindful, accountable and stay as close to our goal as possible, especially when making tough decisions! 2. Small action can lead to big impact! With Green Nudge’s presence at the civic centre, we were exposed to their value of practical sustainability. From there, we became encouraged to also go green-er at the festival. And so did our festival participants! They brought their own containers, washed their own mugs and recycled materials from the event, reducing our overall event waste. When we share our intention with others, we’d be surprised to see who else is keen to share this commitment with us too.

  • We're 🎶 Not Alone 🎶 in our journey to transform waste into useful products! In August, we teamed up with Our Tampines Hub (OTH) to celebrate our nation’s 59th birthday by hosting a series of upcycling workshops over National Day weekend! Participants learnt practical skills through hands-on activities like paper making, eco-enzyme creation, coffee clay crafting, beeswax wrap making, and shower steamer and toilet bomb workshops, all aimed at promoting waste reduction and encouraging sustainable practices. • Curious about what it takes to turn everyday waste into art? 😚 Earlier this year, we teamed up with Kult Studio & Gallery for RISE, Sentosa Development Corporation Sentosa's Sustainable Showcase, turning discards into discoveries. We supported the assembly of 1,400+ repurposed bottles into a wave-inspired wall 🌊 and transformed old hotel bedsheets into a stunning seagrass ceiling! Swipe for behind-the-scenes moments 🎬 Huge thank you to our amazing volunteers—we couldn’t have done it without you! 💚 Catch this installation at Sentosa’s Beach Station until December 2024. #greennudge #greennudgesg #makegreenthenorm #sustainableart #repurposing #wastetoart
