Student | Aspiring Future Pilot | Commitment, Integrity, and Excellence: Guiding You to Success

Two weeks ago, I attended the Royal Air Force Air Cadets flagship camp, National Air & Space Camp. This experience has been another significant step forward in my air cadet and aviation journey, where I gained many new practical skills and knowledge. Each day was different, and each day taught me something new, an amazing experience! On the first day, I explored the National Space Centre, engaging with space artefacts and interactive exhibits. Highlights included the iconic 42-metre-high Rocket Tower, creating a hoverboard, testing rockets, and even making a comet. Day two took us to RAF Syerston, where we delved into air operations. We learned about air traffic control, flight planning, radar systems, and navigation, providing valuable insights into the different operations. On day three, we toured RAF Waddington, seeing No. 51 Squadron’s Rivet Joint and No. 31 Squadron’s Protector drones. Comparing the oldest and newest RAF aircraft was truly inspiring. Day four's industry day featured British Airways’ A350 simulator, BAE Systems' display, and the Air Cadet Charity received 230 Prepar3D® Academic Licences, from Lockheed Martin to support cadet's development. The day closed with a stunning flying display of the Spitfire, Lancaster, F-15s, and Typhoon among others! On the fifth day, high winds prevented gliding at RAF Syerston, but we toured the gliders and light aircraft instead. Later, I completed the Blue Space syllabus, an exciting new course for cadets. The final day brought us to the ASI (Newark) , where we trained on light aircraft simulators, tested engineering skills, and tried out a VR helicopter simulator. The highlight was seeing the Airbus A318 retrofitted as an A320neo for pilot and crew training. The camp has been an incredible experience overall. I had the opportunity to speak with many renowned officers, the incoming Commandant, Gp Capt Allen Lewis, and outstanding companies. A key moment was speaking with Acting Sqn Ldr Peter K. Doyle, the South Region Course Director for Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course, a course I am eager to complete during my cadet career. I also spoke with several aviation officers who spoke about the Air Cadet Pilot Scholarship (ACPS), which I'm determined to pursue. The final highlight was the incredible news I received earlier this week. During industry day, I had the opportunity to speak with several professionals from British Airways. Recently, I received an email informing me that I have won BA's Golden Ticket! I want to thank everyone who made this incredible camp possible. I am grateful to the Officers, Staff, QAIs for their guidance and support in ensuring that the camp was a success. I want to thank especially British Airways and all other 70 companies and 300 personnel present on the industry day. Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have supported me in my journey! #AirCadets #RAFACNASC #WhatWeDo #1454HarrowSquadron #ShowTheWay #BritishAirways #BAInspire

  • We can't believe it's already been two weeks since #AirAndSpaceCamp 2024! The week was jam-packed with training activities for our over 250 residential cadets, and with that, they were off in all directions throughout the week. Despite this, we managed to get them all together for a few minutes at the start of Industry Day to take a camp photograph! #RAFACNASC #WhatWeDo #NoOrdinaryHobby Royal Air Force Air Cadets

We are delighted to announce that the Air Cadet Charity has received a very generous donation of 230 Prepar3D® Academic Licences from Lockheed Martin. The Academic licences valued at over £10,000 will enable the charity to increase its support towards immersive training as well as enhance education and development of the RAF Air Cadets.     The software licences were presented at the annual RAF Air Cadets’ National Air & Space Camp Industry Day at RAF Syerston by Harvey Plant. Harvey is an engineering graduate and training solutions engineer from Lockheed Martin UK, who himself is a former Air Cadet and qualified private pilot. Here is what Harvey had to say:  “I am delighted to represent Lockheed Martin today to formally hand over the Prepar3D® simulation software to the Air Cadet Charity to allow them to continue supporting the RAF Air Cadets. I know how important this donation will be to the Charity and the Cadets themselves, due to my own experiences as an Air Cadet, where I was encouraged to immerse myself in as many activities as possible.  I passed the Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course (QIAC) in 2014, eventually reaching the rank of Sergeant before leaving to attain my Masters in Aerospace Engineering.”    Collaborating with industry in this way allows us as a charity to increase the support that we can offer. It helps us to achieve our aim of ensuring that young people have equal access to opportunities, activities and support and ensures their time with the RAF Air Cadets allows them to develop their full potential.    Wg Cdr Martin Hughes, Head of Immersive Technologies at the Royal Air Force Air Cadets said: “We are grateful to Lockheed Martin for making a generous donation to the Air Cadet Charity to enable them to continue supporting the training and progression of some of our most dedicated cadets. Simulation technologies are a wonderful way of putting cadets into a virtual cockpit where they can learn nearly all of the functional elements of an aircraft that they are unlikely to be able to get near to the controls. Seeing industry willing to help in the education and development of our cadets is testament to a spirit of collaboration that will deliver the aviators of the future that industry and our armed forces need.’’    A huge thank you to Lockheed Martin for their support!

Aviation Management With Private Pilots Training In Aircraft Student | Student Pilot | Qualified Aerospace Instructor | Ex Cadet Flight Sergeant, RAFAC | Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society

This past week I assisted on the #AirandSpaceCamp by using my newly found skills from the Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course, in which I qualified from in April of this year, to instruct and pass on knowledge in; Air traffic control, Simulator Training, Air operations and Engineering. This opportunity allowed me to deepen my instructional skills in these specific domains as well gaining further knowledge in which I could continue to pass on. On the Monday and Tuesday, I was in the Visual Control Room. In this module we had three cadets on flight simulators who would fly circuits around #rafcranwell while another cadet would be sat at the top of the specially modified Runway Control Trailer, using their Pinboard and synthetic windows to control the three in the circuit. This is a special opportunity for the cadets to learn and understand aerodrome control. On the Wednesday I attended the #nasc Industry Day where I was able to connect with more than 70 industry partners and leaders in the air and space domains such as; Inzpire, BAE Systems, British Airways, Royal Air Force (RAF) and Civil Aviation Authority. This has equipped me with the knowledge of the opportunities that are presented to myself, in which I could pursue in the future. In the morning I had the pleasure of escorting some senior members and Industry partners attending, around the site to demonstrate training opportunities presented to cadets on the #nationalairandspace camp. One of the Senior members I encountered was the Regional Commandant for Wales and West Roger Simon, who gave me a great in depth view my region and its plans for the future. #RAFAC #WhatWeDo #NASC #AirCadets #NoOrdinaryHobby
