REACHING THE SUMMIT👷👷♀️🪨🤝🇺🇸: Summit Materials has confirmed it will enter into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Quikrete following weeks of speculation. The US-based aggregates and cement producer has entered into the deal for $52.50 per share in cash, for a total enterprise value of approximately $11.5 billion, including debt. "We are pleased to have reached this agreement, which will deliver significant, immediate and certain cash value to our shareholders," said Howard Lance, chairman of Summit's board of directors. BIG STATESIDE DEAL👷👷♀️🛠️🪨🤝🇺🇸: Heidelberg Materials North America has entered into a definitive purchase agreement to acquire GCHI Giant Cement Holding, Inc. (GCHI) and its subsidiaries, Giant Cement Company, Dragon Products Company and GRR Giant Resource Recovery Inc., from the Fortaleza SAFI, Uniland Corporation and TRITURADORA JVS groups. Included in the around US$600 million deal are Giant Cement Company assets in the Southeastern US, consisting of an integrated cement plant in Harleyville, South Carolina, a network of four cement distribution terminals in Georgia and South Carolina, as well as a joint-venture deep-water import terminal in Savannah, Georgia. Dragon Products assets in New England, including a cement and slag distribution terminal in Newington, New Hampshire, and a deep-water import terminal in Boston, Massachusetts. Giant Resource Recovery (GRR!), a hazardous and non-hazardous alternative fuel recycling business with four strategically located facilities in the Eastern US. Heidelberg Materials North America's purchase of GCHI is expected to contribute around $60 million in EBITDA in the first year of operation before significant additional synergies. "The acquisition of the GCHI assets will further strengthen our cementitious footprint in the growing Southeastern U.S. and New England markets," said Chris Ward, president and CEO of Heidelberg Materials North America. "We are excited to expand our supply network on the East Coast to better serve our broad customer base, and we expect strong synergies with the Giant Resource Recovery fuel recycling business. We welcome the GCHI employees and customers to Heidelberg Materials and look forward to the opportunities and growth potential ahead." This latest acquisition by Heidelberg Materials reflects its continued focus on further strengthening its footprint in core markets, building a sustainable future and positioning the company as the front-runner on the path to carbon neutrality and a circular economy in the construction materials industry.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN👷🛠️🇬🇧 🇮🇪: CEMCOR Ltd has signed a new deal for seven new Caterpillar Inc. machines to be delivered to its Cookstown, Northern Ireland quarry from Finning UK & Ireland. CEMCOR received the new machines early this month from Finning UK and Ireland, one of the largest dealers of Cat machines, parts and aftermarket services. The new machines will support CEMCOR’s Cookstown operation, which supplies all of the limestone for the company’s nearby plant, which produces half a million tonnes of cement annually. The delivery included two Cat 988 XE wheeled loaders with electric drives and a rated payload of 14.5 tonnes. The pair of wheeled loaders is the first of its kind in Ireland and is designed to handle heavy-duty tasks and large-scale material handling. Three Cat 775 highway trucks, a Cat 352 ME excavator and a Cat D4 dozer, were also included in the delivery from Finning to CEMCOR. According to Finning, the machines have the latest features, including automated payload weighing, proximity and overload warning systems, tyre pressure monitoring and automated braking. WE MUST WEATHER THE STORM🗣️👷🪨⛈️🇬🇧: Aggregate Industries UK is calling for urgent action from transport authorities and stakeholders to reinforce UK infrastructure against the growing threat of extreme weather. The call comes as the Met Office issued further heavy rain warnings this week, with 5.1 inches of rain falling across England within 24 hours, leading to yet more disruption to UK travel networks and other critical infrastructure.   Record levels of rainfall across the country have been causing widespread flooding, landslides and damage to essential transport links. One such incident was the Telford landslip of March this year, which closed the railway line between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton for a period of three weeks, causing travel chaos in the local area.   Occurring after weeks of unrelenting rain, more than 5,000 tonnes of material gave way beneath a 50-metre section of the railway. Without urgent intervention, the landslip would have resulted in a prolonged closure and, consequently, significant economic and logistical impact. Responding to this urgent challenge, Aggregate Industries played a pivotal role in supporting Network Rail to restore the embankment. Its team rapidly mobilised to deliver the required quota of 4,000 Tonnes of native stone from its Bardon Hill quarry in Leicestershire. This included the Gabion stone and rip rap required to rebuild the earthwork and protect it from further damage.   Owing to the urgency required, numerous challenges arose. Site access proved problematic, with the embankment positioning along the railway track preventing access via traditional means. The volume of stone required then quickly increased to over 20,000 Tonnes as remedial works progressed and further sections of the 160-year-old embankment eroded. Weekend deliveries were then needed (when quarry operations were typically closed) to get the additional materials to Network Rail on-site without further delay. Richard Allen, business manager for special aggregate products at Aggregate Industries, comments: "This was a challenging project logistically, but certainly a highly rewarding one."   The embankment, now supported by large stone steps, is fortified against future weather events, providing a stable, long-term solution for the railway.   Kaziwe Siame Kaulule, managing director for the Aggregates & Overseas division at Aggregate Industries, adds: "As extreme weather increasingly threatens UK infrastructure, the importance of proactive solutions cannot be overstated."   "The recent creation of the Flood Resilience Taskforce demonstrates the government's commitment to addressing these risks before they escalate into crises. By prioritising long-term resilience projects today, we can safeguard essential transport networks and protect communities from the escalating impacts of climate change in the future."
