Last week CDO2 was part of the Innovate UK Global Business Innovation Programme to Germany on Quantum Technologies alongside Aegiq, Digistain®, Haiqu, nodeQ, Qoro Quantum, Quantopticon, Quantum Fabrix, Skylark Lasers, Wave Photonics and Zaiku Group Ltd. 🥨 Starting in Munich, we visited UnternehmerTUM and met companies in the TUM Venture Labs as part of Munich Quantum Valley. Over to Menlo Systems, we were treated to lunch and an insight into a successfully bootstrapped quantum technology company. ⚛ We spent two days in Stuttgart at the Quantum Effects conference. Firstly joining the EPIC - EUROPEAN PHOTONICS INDUSTRY CONSORTIUM event, followed by our own presentations on the stage. Speed networking was provided by Anchored In Ltd. The conference also allowed us to valuable time to catch up with colleagues from CDO2 Germany and Quantum Valley Lower Saxony. 🏭 For the rest of the week, we were in North Rhine-Westphalia. Based in Düsseldorf, we visited Fraunhofer ILT in Aachen, Forschungszentrum Jülich and Elmos in Dortmund. We were also joined by members of the EIN Quantum NRW cluster for a networking dinner at the Industrie-Club Düsseldorf. The programme was a complete immersion into the German quantum ecosystem and we look forward to working closely with our new friends. The visit was delivered by Innovate UK South East. Thank you to the on-trip team of Lucie Botha, Andrew Dennis and Ashreen Seethal. From Innovate UK we were accompanied by Abhinav Sharma and Clara King representing the Quantum and Global aspects of the agency respectively.

Next week CDO2 is joining ten other UK companies on the Global Business Innovation Programme (#GBIP) in Germany - Quantum Technology organised by Innovate UK South East. This involves and intense week visiting organisations across the Munich, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf regions. In Stuttgart we are presenting at the Quantum Effects conference and on Tuesday 8 October at 4pm, Gary Kendall will be introducing the quantum technology in our battery inspection system: https://lnkd.in/e_a6gh4G We are keen to find partners new partners across Germany to work with us as we develop our quantum technology for larger battery inspection installations. Not only were the students technically motivated to understand the impact of quantum technology, there was a lot of insight into the commercial setup needed to start a business in this sector. We wish the students good luck finding their first steps into a successful career in quantum!

Congratulations to our Application Engineer Matt Withers who starts his Industrial Fellowship funded by the The Faraday Institution this week. ⚛️Matt will be developing quantum sensors with Fedja Orucevic and Thomas Coussens in the Quantum Systems and Devices group at the University of Sussex 🔋The sensors will be optimised for defect detection in battery cells, allowing improved quality and yield in battery manufacturing 💡This fellowship strengthens our ties with the University and allows for a close sharing of knowledge and expertise Matt continues to work at CDO2 and will be transferring his new skills into our product development.

Today we are exhibiting on the Innovate UK Faraday Battery Challenge stand at the Battery Cells & Systems Expo in Birmingham NEC. 🔋the DutyCell project uses our FlexiBatt busbars to monitor and switch individual cells for more efficient charging and discharging 🔬our current density analyser can image current flow through cells, demonstrating the effectiveness of new cells materials ⚛️ quantum sensors prove a non-contact mechanism to detect defects in cells during manufacture Come and see the Innovate technology we have developed with support from the Faraday Battery Challenge today.

Last week saw very exciting developments for our operations in Germany 🚀🇩🇪 💼 Our lab in the Quantum Valley Lower Saxony HTI in Braunschweig was officially opened by the Secretary of State of the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung and the Minister for Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Verkehr, Bauen und Digitalisierung 🔬Specialist equipment was installed for developing and testing quantum sensors by the HTI sponsor Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, PTB ⚛️Our first quantum engineer was recruited to develop our battery inspection systems We are on track to have the prototype of our new quantum sensors for battery inspection completed in Braunschweig in 2024 🔋

Last week CDO2 joined fourteen other innovative UK battery companies visiting Korea. This was part of the Innovate UK Faraday Battery Challenge Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP) on Battery Technologies to South Korea. 🇬🇧🇰🇷 🏯 our visit coincided with a series of events organised by the British Embassy in Seoul for Green Week 🏭 we visited research institutions in Daejeon and Ulsan, the industrial heartland of Korea with the highest GDP per Capita in the country 🌊we saw the Sea Water battery research centre at UNIST, developing a new type of sustainable battery with salt water cathode 🤝 there were numerous B2B networking events, allowing in-depth discussions on collaboration opportunities 🔋we exhibited at InterBattery on the UK pavillion and had in-depth meetings with numerous potential business partners 🎓 finally we were able to consolidate our existing university links with SeoulTech It was a very productive week and helped us appreciate why Korea has such a large share of the European EV market. Korea is an essential partner in the world battery market that continues the tradition of engineering innovation.🧑🔬🦾
