Improving biomedical research by automated behaviour monitoring in the animal home-cage
About us
Improving biomedical research by automated behaviour monitoring in the animal home-cage The aim of this Action is to bring together European organizations developing and using automated home-cage monitoring technologies, combining experts in mouse behaviour, laboratory animal science and data science, to critically and transparently assess the potential of these technologies, to develop user guidelines and standard operating procedures and to identify needs for further technological development, including analysis of big data. The Action will also contribute to building capacities for adoption of these technologies by holding workshops, laboratory rotations and disseminating knowledge.

🔍 Are the Forced Swim Test (FST) and Tail Suspension Test (TST) Still Valid for Depression Research? 🐭 In a recent discussion on www.TheBehaviourForum.org, researchers debated the use of FST and TST for evaluating depression-like behaviors in mice. While these tests measure coping strategies, they fall short in capturing the complexity of depression. Here’s what experts recommend: 📌 Key Takeaways: • FST and TST might oversimplify depression, missing out on the multidimensional nature of mental health conditions. • Suggestions include testing multiple behavioral dimensions, leveraging AI/ML for deeper insights, and developing models that go beyond DSM-5 criteria. ▶️ Swipe through the images to read expert insights and potential solutions for improving preclinical models! 📈 join the discussion in the Forum ! #BehavioralResearch #Neuroscience #MentalHealthResearch #AnimalBehavior #AIinScience #LinkedInScience
