𝗥𝗮𝘄 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 – 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸? ✍️ 🤔 It’s that time of year when we all make predictions for the next 12 months (and maybe reflect on how wrong we were about the previous 12!). Here are a few ideas from our team—let us know which one you think will define 2025 the most: 🚓 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲) 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Particularly in the US, demand for critical materials may shift, with security and defence driving demand more than the energy transition. The EU will follow suit with: • Capital injection into certain metal markets • New definitions of “critical” or “strategic” materials • Potential state-funded mining or defence companies sourcing their own materials 🌎 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗯𝘆𝗲 𝗘𝗦𝗚 𝗧𝗶𝗰𝗸-𝗕𝗼𝘅 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲? The days of surface-level ESG may be numbered. Instead, the focus could shift to real, impact-driven sustainability. This could mean: • ESG departments in compliance-focused consultancies shutting down • A flood of ESG professionals entering the job market • Mature organisations continue to see sustainability as key to managing long-term risks 🤖 𝗔𝗜 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗱𝘆 (𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁) AI “agents” may become part of our everyday work, helping with everything from taking notes to designing mines. But the value of AI depends on how it’s used. In 2025, managing AI effectively could become a critical skill in fields like sales, report writing, and mine design. What do you think? The government has announced a ban on the sale of disposable vapes by June 2025, intending to prevent environmental damage. But just how damaging are they? 🗑️1.3 million disposable vapes are thrown away in the UK every week. 🔋 Plastic, copper, and a lithium-ion battery— that’s what vapes are made of. 🚮 With the amount of vapes that ended up in landfill last year, we could have recycled enough Lithium to produce 1,200 electric vehicle (EV) batteries. Now that Lithium is lost. ⛽️ Without Lithium, we cannot move away from Fossil Fuels. The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts that we will be facing Lithium shortages as early as 2025. We cannot be squandering it. ♻️ Vape-producing companies and UK Government need to act. Educating the public on the importance of recycling vapes, and providing easy pathways to do so, will help us reach Net Zero.
