CSA Catapult has put forward eight recommendations to support the UK government's industrial strategy. Our recommendations address current industry challenges and support the government’s growth mission. 1️⃣ Elevate the importance of the semiconductor sector by recognising semiconductors as a subsector of the industrial strategy 2️⃣ Create a National Semiconductor Institute to strengthen, lead and co-ordinate targeted activity across the UK 3️⃣ Co-ordinate long-term skills plans for semiconductors across UK and devolved governments to maintain and grow talent pools 4️⃣ Position the UK as a ‘semiconductor super cluster’ to drive UK growth and exports for the long term by establishing a £305m Semiconductor Challenge Fund 5️⃣ Grow existing semiconductor clusters to develop regional capability and support regional growth 6️⃣ Invest in compound semiconductor manufacturing and infrastructure 7️⃣ Prioritise UK semiconductors in public contracts for digital infrastructure and defence 8️⃣ Increase access to funding, improve regulation and strengthen IP 🔗 Read the full response here: https://lnkd.in/dZmQP2GR Department for Science, Innovation and Technology Department for Business and Trade Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Innovate UK Catapult Network Western Gateway CSconnected Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government Invest Northern Ireland Technology Scotland National Manufacturing Institute Scotland The Scottish Government Wales Office/Swyddfa Cymru Northern Ireland Office #NetZero #Telecoms #CompoundSemiconductors #Semiconductors #Technology #Innovation #IndustrialStrategy

Our vision is for the UK to be a global leader in developing & commercialising applications for compound semiconductors
About us
Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult is the UK’s authority on compound semiconductor applications and commercialisation. The Catapult works with start-ups, SMEs, large organisations and academia to de-risk commercialisation, eliminate barriers to market and accelerate compound semiconductor technologies used in transport, future telecoms, energy distribution, quantum and data centres. (CSA) Catapult was established in 2018 by Innovate UK to help the UK become a global leader in compound semiconductors. We have a world-leading team of experts with the know-how, experience and track record in developing and commercialising compound semiconductor technologies and applications. We bring compound semiconductor applications to life in three key areas: the road to Net Zero, Future Telecoms and intelligent sensing. We are a trusted neutral convener, working with large companies, SMEs, and academia. We help de-risk new innovations and act as a neutral convener, bringing innovators, industry and academia together. CSA Catapult is a not-for-profit organisation headquartered in South Wales with locations in Bristol, the North East and Scotland. We have capabilities in power electronics, advanced packaging, RF & microwave, and photonics. The next wave of emerging applications will have an enormous impact on our lives. Compound semiconductors will enable a host of new and exciting applications in the electrification of transport, clean energy, defence and security and digital communications markets.

A huge thank you to Amy Romaniuk, Paul Larcey, and Innovate UK Business Connect for organizing an exceptional meeting on Future Computing Technologies and Energy Efficient Computing at the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering. What a view! The day opened with a fantastic introduction from Prof. Bashir M. Al-Hashimi CBE FREng FRS, spotlighting emerging technologies and paving the way for thought-provoking discussions. It was great to reconnect with Adnan Mehonic, Karen Bach, Prof. Sergey Saveliev, Neil Kemp, Stefano Mensa, PhD MBCS and the team at STFC Hartree Centre Engaging talk from Danyal Akarca on polychronization or spike-timing-dependent plasticity that allows the neural network model to select the most effective axonal transmission delay between neurons. Using delays to improve performance got my neurons ("gates") going!!! The day also featured a presentation by Jayakrishnan Chandrappan on semiconductor packaging innovations that will drive the future of computing. An inspiring highlight came from Prof. Judith Driscoll , who called for the community to unite and collaboratively shape a roadmap for advancing this critical field. I was particularly intrigued and inspired by discussions with Julian Weinberg, Dialogue Action exploring the transformative potential of neurotechnology in mediation and international conflict - a field that holds immense promise for reshaping mental health treatment. Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult are excited to collaborate with the UK’s neuromorphic community to accelerate advancements in this transformative space.

Today, I had the privilege of representing Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult during the launch of the Bristol Innovation Zone and a VIP tour of its world-first digital and creative facilities, Bristol Digital Futures Institute. A collaborative hub where diverse teams can co-design, innovate, and drive socio-tech research forward. A special thanks to Simon Bond and Karen Brooks and the entire team for showcasing this one-of-a-kind collaborative space. Key Highlights: Sector-Agnostic Digital Twin, Smart Cinema, Advanced Studio Spaces and Sustainability Tools. It was inspiring to hear Nigel Toon, CEO of Graphcore highlight Bristol’s potential as a leading innovation district, and I echo his sentiments. Good to catch up with Dimitra Simeonidou, FREng, FIEEE, Martin Kuball , It was great to connect with Paul Jones, Elly Rowley and James Byrne during the event. Bristol is setting a new standard for how we think about innovation, and I’m excited to see the impact this will have across sectors. If you haven’t seen what’s happening here yet, it’s worth exploring how these innovations could transform your projects and teams! #Innovation #Bristol #DigitalFutures #Collaboration #Sustainability

⚛ Did you know that compound semiconductors will accelerate quantum hardware of the future? At CSA Catapult, we're working on several quantum projects with a range of partners from across the supply chain. ⭐ The AirQKD project addressed quantum-secure last-mile connectivity and built a demonstrator for a metropolitan-scale free-space optical QKD network. ⭐ The SNORQL project aimed to develop industry-ready, robust and reliable packaged quantum components to accelerate quantum R&D. ⭐ The SPLICE project assembled a world-leading scientific and industrial consortium to develop and industrialise gas imagers based on time-correlated single photon counting. This is one of the early applications of quantum technology.
