💡The UK’s Opportunity in Compound Semiconductors A new report from Policy Exchange highlights an important opportunity for the UK in the global #semiconductor race. While we lack a broad-based semiconductor manufacturer like Europe’s Infineon or NXP, the UK has world-class expertise in Compound Semiconductors (CS), a critical technology for the future. From electric vehicles and 6G networks to AI, quantum technologies, and autonomous vehicles, CS technologies are at the heart of some of the most transformative #industries. The report, authored by Sir Geoffrey Owen, suggests that the UK should focus on building its leadership in this area. One key recommendation is the creation of an open-access compound semiconductor foundry, a facility that could enable collaboration, innovation, and scale across the industry.
