Midland Met NEW Photo Series: Structure Detail shots from Jack Hobhouse showcasing the structural elements at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. At MMUH, our structure is as bold as our vision! External cross-bracing and steel cores work together to create an open-plan design that’s not just practical but incredibly adaptable. Say goodbye to bulky shear walls and hello to endless possibilities — every floor is a flexible space ready for the future of healthcare. Curtins' exceptional contribution to the building’s steel structure provides strength, resilience, and the ability to span seamlessly across diverse hospital functions. And let’s not forget our standout orange accent colour, bringing energy, warmth and unique look to the hospital. Watch this space for more photos! 📸 HKS, Inc. Curtins and Trafford Council recently joined forces for the Hope Green Growing Project, aimed at enhancing a new allotment space to provide the community a space to learn, cook and grow. 🪴 To ensure the groundwork was expertly managed, we enlisted Kier Group to handle tasks such as laying sub-bases, creating paths, and assisting with planter construction. These preparations were successfully completed by mid-October, setting the stage for the Curtins & Trafford Council volunteering day. The Hope Green Growing Project is dedicated to developing the new allotment area. On Wednesday, 13th November, volunteers from Curtins and Trafford Council came together to undertake several key activities: - Building the polytunnel - Constructing the metal shed - Transporting grano to the allotment - Clearing rubbish from the allotment corner - Relocating plant pots, equipment, and the greenhouse back to the allotment plot Matthew Wright CEng MICE and Yin Lin (Lynnie) Ler from our Manchester office, along with a team of 12-15 people from Trafford Council, enthusiastically participated in these efforts. #BuildingABetterFuture #WeAreCurtins #HopeGreenGrowingProject #CommunitySpirit

We were absolutely thrilled to see such a fantastic turnout for Low Carbon Cumbria: Construction Spotlight yesterday at North Lakes Hotel & Spa in Penrith, in partnership with Lake District National Park and Cumbria Action for Sustainability. 🌟 The event brought knowledge and fresh perspectives on carbon reduction in the national park and wider Cumbrian region, which is home to substantial residential and industrial areas, with Karen Mitchell and Tina Holt setting the scene from Cumbria Action for Sustainability, and Andy Roberts of Curtins delving into the clever 'stuff' our engineers are doing right now to actively reduce embodied carbon in new built and retrofit. Rose Lord , Built Environment Advisor from Lake District National Park Authority also highlighted some examples of retrofitting done well, alongside others that, whilst delivering on a modern aesthetic, can negatively impact the breathability and water permeability of old buildings, leading us through best practice for conservation and maintenance. We were also delighted to be joined by four additional panellists to lead discussions on Decarbonisation and Construction & Sustainability skills in Cumbria. Thank you to Diane Hubbard (Founder - Green Footsteps Ltd), Emma Porter (Managing Director - Story Contracting Limited & Founder - The Rebuild Site), Alex Isted MCIOB (Area Director - Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure) and Lee Todd ( Curriculum Operations Leader for Construction - Lakes College) for your insight and sharing the powerful work your businesses are doing. So a powerhouse of knowledge, featuring top-tier speakers and dynamic panel discussions that brought fresh perspectives and sparked engaging conversations about carbon reduction in Cumbria! Thank you for joining us all! #BuildingABetterFuture #Cumbria #WeAreCurtins #LowCarbonCumbria #SustainabilityinConstruction

Our RAAC event with IStructE Yorkshire Regional Group and Leeds College of Building has made the news! ⭐ Oliver Organ, Associate at Curtins, said: “Building on the success of our RAAC event at Leeds College of Building earlier in the year, Curtins were delighted to return and collaborate with the College once again. The event has provided an opportunity for the industry to gain a deeper understanding of how RAAC performs in comparison to traditional concrete. “With the facilities available at the College, we’ve been able to deliver an interactive workshop, live load testing, and a short talk by experts from Curtins & AGH Solutions Ltd, with a spotlight on the innovative work taking place at Airedale General Hospital led by Richard Burgin. The success of the event is a credit to the support provided by Leeds College of Building, and it’s been a privilege to bring the industry together in Leeds to highlight important work being undertaken in the field of building safety.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ek4TuWHc #wearecurtins #buildingabetterfuture #raac #buildingsafety #leeds

📣 This week in Parliament, we celebrated the launch of the Curtins Breaking Down Barriers Impact Report. As members of The Purpose Coalition, Curtins exemplifies how purpose-led businesses can lead meaningful change. Their 400 strong employee-owned team is setting a benchmark for leadership and inclusion, not just within the engineering sector but across industries. Among the many standout features of this report is Curtins’ exemplary work in addressing women’s health in the workplace. From their menstruation campaign to upgrading site facilities and training managers to better support women, they’re showing that acknowledging and tackling gender-specific challenges can transform organisational culture and improve workplace equity. 💡 Alice Temple, Transport Planner at Curtins, highlights this perfectly in her recent article, “It’s Time to Break the Silence Around Periods.” Alice’s experiences through the Reverse Mentoring programme inspired Curtins’ initiatives to foster a more supportive environment. Their campaign goes beyond raising awareness it delivers actionable change. Sanitary products are now available in offices and even pool cars, hygiene facilities on construction sites have been upgraded, and line managers have been trained on how to better support menstruation-related challenges. The Curtins Breaking Down Impact Report reinforces these efforts with commitments aimed at influencing wider industry practices and policymaking. It challenges businesses and policymakers alike to embed these crucial standards across the board, ensuring equity becomes the norm, not the exception. 👏 Huge congratulations to Curtins on this incredible milestone and I look forward to working closely with the team to implement the recommendations outlined within our report.
